What is Parent?

Parenthood sits at the intersection of sociology, law, psychology, family studies, and public policy, making it a versatile subject across undergraduate and graduate curricula. Courses in child development, family law, social work, and ethics all treat the parent-child relationship as a foundational unit of analysis. What makes the topic academically compelling is its reach: questions about who qualifies as a parent, what responsibilities parents hold, and how family structure shapes child outcomes connect deeply personal experience to institutional and legal frameworks. Concepts such as parens patriae, parental alienation syndrome, and vicarious liability illustrate how legal systems define and regulate parental roles, while debates over mandatory vaccination and gay adoption push the topic into contested ethical territory.

Student papers on this subject take a wide range of approaches. Comparative analyses weigh outcomes for children raised in single-parent versus two-parent households. Policy-focused essays examine whether the state should mandate medical decisions like vaccination or intervene through "get tough" legal movements. Case-study and legal analysis papers explore doctrines such as parental alienation syndrome from a family systems perspective or trace liability questions through specific court scenarios. Other papers take a more personal, experiential angle, examining what it means to balance work and parenting in daily life, or analyze family communication tools used in educational settings.

A strong essay on a parenting topic begins with a clearly bounded thesis — arguing a specific claim about policy, relationship dynamics, or legal responsibility rather than surveying the subject broadly. Evidence drawn from peer-reviewed developmental research, legal precedent, or documented case studies carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is conflating personal anecdote with scholarly argument; emotional resonance can support an essay, but it should reinforce evidence-based claims rather than substitute for them.

Personal Development Plan for Career and Skills Growth
Careers are sometimes as fleeting as the dreams that encompass them. Often, individuals, in search of a career dream of financial security, the ability to purchase a dream home, or obtaining material possessions that may showcase their wealth or status. There is no lack of ambition and fortitude within individuals in this regard. We all want to achieve success is some form or another. We all aspire for greatness, albeit in varying degrees and capacities (Maslow, 1996). What is lacking however is a concrete method in which to achieve ones desired financial and career goals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in recent report indicated that individuals change careers approximately 11 times during their lifetime. Many jobs are becoming obsolete as they are either replaced or outsourced overseas. Many jobs are cyclical in nature and thus are only needed during periods of economic euphoria. No matter what the theory is however, one constant will always remain. Individuals need to utilize their talents and skillsets to maximize their earnings potential (Druker, 1999). In order to achieve this success, I believe it prudent to develop a personal development plan outlining an individual's goals and objectives. This resource is very important as it provides the foundation for the individual's future objectives. Personal development is of particular interest in the midst of our current economic turmoil (Ibarra, 2003). Now, perhaps more than any other period in history, development of individual skills will determine financial success. As such, I personally have made significant strides in my development with respect to my work and individual life. Currently, as is the case with many recessions, companies have a tendency to lay off mass amounts of labor. This has occurred throughout many of the developed nations including, but not limited to, America, Europe, and Japan. This requires a renewed emphasis on skill development on the part of individuals.

Conflict and Harmony in Family Business Relationships
A significant percentage of the private sector is comprised of family business. Family business has its own dynamic propelled by a shared family history, personal values, and intimate knowledge of their own concerns amongst other factors. Given that the family operates harmoniously, they have an ease of communication, which propels their business, but, most importantly, they are unanimously committed to long-term goals and are highly motivated to succeed. The harmonious family imbues the family business with shared objective and vibrancy enabling success. Conflict, on the other hand, has a tendency to creep into the business and, ultimately, dissolve that too. As reverse, conflict, originated by business concerns, can dissolve the harmonious glue of the family structure. It is, therefore, important for both family and business, and, ultimately, for the importance of economic welfare of the nation as a whole that the subject of conflict of family business be investigated so that ideas of conflict solution may be generated.
