It is important that tomorrow's business leaders understand the good and bad science behind currently marketed drugs, and understand what constitutes ethical and unethical marketing practices. Also, over the course of the past five months, while working in a research lab in genetics has given me invaluable knowledge, I have realized the importance of science to communicate in layperson's terms with the outside world. On an individual level, I often find it frustrating that my more scientifically oriented colleagues in my current place of employment exhibit so little interest in making their scientific work comprehensible, much less marketable to non-scientists and to industry. This contrast between their own orientation and my own desire to communicate effectively with a larger world confirms my decision to enter the business world.

In my own future, I seek to be a bridge between the worlds of science and industry. To better become such a bridge, I have supplemented my current work at the laboratory with volunteering in a local high school, teaching mathematics. This...

I believe this is late in my academic career, but early in my 'life' career. I have made some mistakes over my academic career, and my transcript has, to some extent, paid the price -- I received only average grades in the past two biology courses I took, given the diverted focus and energy I have given to business and to sharpening the economic skills that I will need for the field I hope to make my future career. But I hope to make up for past mistakes, use my past constructively and intelligently, and to use the time I have left in school in an intelligent fashion.
After much reflection over the past five months, I believe my path is clear. I have asked myself, what excites me -- and what excites me is putting my mathematical and scientific abilities into the service of the real world of economy and industry.
