Many people get what seems to be a very severe flu when they have been exposed to HIV. They may have a fever, muscle and joint pain, a headache, fatigue, rash, a sore throat, and swollen glands. As HIV progresses to AIDS, symptoms include rapid weight loss, swelling of the lymph glands, recurring fever and night sweats, extreme tiredness, pneumonia, sores on the mouth and genitals, depression, memory loss, blotches on the skin, and diarrhea. Many of these belong to other illnesses, as well, and don't necessarily mean the person has HIV or AIDS.
