Business Requirements Document Describe the project

The project is focusing on a data collection and analysis for a storage and networking company. It is two years old and has been working to establish a repository. This is unique platform which allows someone to access a variety of information about the organization or individuals. Currently, the firm is utilizing a total of 10 terabytes to store all data. However, this is expected to rise by 20% annually. This is because the firm will have cliental and other stakeholders who will use their systems to store and retrieve more information. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Describe and define the scope of the project

The scope of the project is to create a working database which is capable of handling the needs of the firm and their cliental. This will be achieved by creating a platform which can be expanded to meet these different goals. These objectives will focus on reaching and going beyond the 10 terabyte platform, utilizing the latest innovations and continuously updating them. When this happens, the firm is more prepared for the challenges it will face and can quickly respond to increasing demand from customers. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

As a result, the scope of the project is to ensure that the platform is capable of evolving and growing with the demands of cliental. This will help everyone to be better prepared for the challenges they will face. At the same time, it will ensure that the organization can achieve its purpose, increase market share / profitability and become a major player inside the sector. Once this occurs, is the point they will meet and can evolve with these changing needs well into the future. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Speculate as to how to control the scope of the project

To control the scope of the project, there will be a focus on creating solutions that will address these shifting requirements from stakeholders. These objectives will be achieved by looking at the demand (which are 20% yearly increases) and then going beyond these requirements. After this takes place, there will be a focus on steps the firm can take to meet these benchmarks and the possibility of going outside of them. This is because demand could easily exceed these projections and the organization must be ready to make any kind of adjustments in the process. If this kind of focus is taken, the firm will be capable of meeting these demands and going beyond them. This will enable the company to control the project through planning ahead and preparing for any uncertainties in the process. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Identify possible risks, constraints, and assumptions.

One possible risk is the database could be breached by hackers. These are individuals who will target it because of the large amounts of information it stores. To counteract these issues, the firm must embrace the latest tactics and have third party contractors identify breaches. This prevent them from being able to access any areas which have sensitive materials. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

A possible constraint is the inability to keep up with demand. This is from executives underestimating the need and not preparing for these variables. When this happens, there is the possibility of the bandwidth and size being exceeded. This increases the odds of the system crashing from not taking these perspectives into account. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

As a result, any kind of assumptions must take a realistic perspective and look beyond the current projections. At the same time, there must be flexibility utilized in the process. To achieve these objectives requires have an open attitude and allowing the system to easily expand its capacity. When this happens, the organization is more prepared for the challenges it will face and can evolve with them. This will help to make any kind of assumptions more realistic, by incorporating these ideas together with a certain amount of openness. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Describe the relationship and integration between systems and infrastructure

The systems and infrastructure will work in conjunction with each other to address the needs of the organization. This is achieved by building a database which is expandable and can address their needs. Data warehousing is when the firm will have the ability to store this information and add to it in the future. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Analytics will serve as a way of determining capacity, what files are accessed the most and the time involved. This will enable the organization and customers to see which files are accessed frequently and areas on the platform someone visits. Cloud technology will enable the firm and its cliental to store unlimited amounts of data and look at it from anywhere in...

...

(Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)
The infrastructure will concentrate on having unlimited bandwidth and backup servers. This will enable clients to store large files and it will serve as a way of retrieving any kind of information which is lost. The security platform will work off of active monitoring by personnel for potential breaches. At the same time, the different firewalls will be interconnected to serve as an initial stop gap measure. If any one of them is successfully breached, the others will have the ability to isolate and analyze the threat. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

In this case, the integration and infrastructure of the platforms work in conjunction with each other. This is achieved through having them work together to enhance and expand the total solutions available to stakeholders. At the same time, there will be an emphasis on having them work in supporting their changing needs and ensuring that all information is accessed securely. When this happens, the organization and customers will have a state of the art solution that is virtually impenetrable. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Speculate upon potential outsourcing or offshore needs

Outsourcing will serve as way of reducing costs, double checking the polices / procedures and testing the system for reliability. To achieve these objective, third party providers will be utilized to handle functions which are essential for the firm. Yet, they will lower the expenses and time involved with achieving certain objectives. One place where this will occur is in human resources. They will have the responsibility for ensuring that the staff members needs are being addressed and making certain the compensation packages are competitive (according to industry standards). (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

At the same time, they will have the responsibility for handling the payroll and ensuring that everyone is following the different policies / procedures. This will be achieved by giving them access to the various locations and monitoring the activities of personal remotely (utilizing surveillance cameras and seeing what they are doing when they are on their computers). If there are any kind of issues, they can bring this to the attention of executives who can deal with it and prevent potential problems from spiraling out of control. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Testing the system for reliability will be outsourced to a third party provider. They can check the security procedures and conduct random spot checks. This is a part of an effort to determine possible weaknesses, prepare employees for what issues to be aware of and make recommendations for addressing these challenges. When this happens, everyone can effectively deal with threats and understand the latest techniques used by criminals to access the firm's database. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Identify and justify the necessary resources including staffing that are necessary.

The primary resources that will be needed to achieve the objectives of the company include: added amounts of storage space / security features, increased levels of training and continuous monitoring of the system. This means that there will be extra costs to fund these programs (which will range around $500 thousand per year). (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

At the same time, various staff members will be necessary to ensure that the organization can meet its long-term objectives. The most notable include: proactive managers, IT personnel, security staff and general employees. Each one of them will have specific responsibilities for ensuring that the database continues to run at optimal levels. They will also prevent any kind of issues from spiraling out of control through troubleshooting and addressing them in the long-term. (Schultz, 2011) (Smith, 2011)

Define relevant terms that will be used throughout the project.

The relevant terms will help to clearly explain the language and the various concepts for everyone to understand. The most notable include:

Outsourcing: This is when third party providers will be used to perform specific functions for the organization.

Personnel: These are employees and managers who will work at the firm. Their objectives are to perform specific functions for the organization.

Database: This is the mainframe computers that will store the information and allow employees / managers / customer to access vital data.

Remote: This is a location where specific functions will be performed. In some cases, this can involve the firm storing data inside these areas to protect any information. At the same time, it could denote a third party provider who is working away from the facility.

These different concepts are important, as they are specifically defining…
