For many people, global warming is primarily relevant to them in regards to the weather. They assume that when it is excessively hot, this is reflective of a shift in the global climate and when it is cold, this is a sign that global warming is not really as bad as it might be. However, this is far from the truth. While changes in weather may still be present during our era of global warming, climate refers to sustained and prolonged shifts in temperature. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), although the earth has always experienced periods of cooling and warming, the current trend has a probability of a staggering 95% to have been generated by human intervention (“Climate Change”).The fact that the current change has been generated by human activity and intervention is what makes the shift so especially worrisome. Industrialization since the nineteenth century has generated an explosion in the number of “heat trapping” gasses, most notably carbon dioxide, and “ancient, or paleoclimate, evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming” (“Climate Change”). One of the most glaring examples of the manifestation of global warming has been the melting of the polar ice caps, which has been thought to have triggered a host...

In contrast to what critics allege, this shift is an unusual one. Although sunspot activity has created changes in the climate in the past, increasing the heat generated from the sun, today, “We are seeing a temperature increase in the troposphere, the lower level of our atmosphere, and a temperature decrease in the stratosphere, the upper level,” which is the reverse of what would occur if sunspot activity were to blame (Thompson). The fact that global temperatures increase more at night than by day, scientists note, is also inconsistent with what would traditionally be expected with global warming (Thompson).
The scientific method suggests that after gathering all available evidence and forming a hypothesis, the hypothesis must be tested in the…

Climate Change Before the Industrial Revolution, climate change was caused by mainly by four fundamental factors: variations in the earth's orbital characteristics; variations in the earth's atmospheric carbon dioxide levels; volcanic eruptions; and variations in solar output. However, due to the amount and types of chemicals emitted by humans into the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution, it is highly likely that human beings are becoming a fifth major factor causing climate

Climate change; Too hot to handle? Climate Change In respect to the world peace, today, there are various issues of concern for survival of humanity in the universe. There are growing interest into the subject of arms race, regional conflicts and continuous injustices among people and nations. However, among the challenges related to these issues, one surpasses the understanding of humanity on measures to adopt in combating it. This is the subject

Climate Change The world's ecological issues have been studied intensely by scientists in various academic disciplines vigorously for many years and have been greatly accelerated in recent decades. The level of understanding about how natural systems on the planet operate has become immensely sophisticated. Although there are still some issues that remain puzzling, on the whole, scientists have a fairly good understanding of the planets natural systems function. In recent years

2009). At the same time, a careful scientific study that attempted to account for the natural temperature cycle of the Earth, which is mainly driven by oceanic currents, found that even with natural variability accounted for the trend in the twentieth century has been an unrelenting warming trend (Swanson et al. 2009). Discussion These results lead to varying conclusions regarding the causes of global warming and the effects it will have

Climate Change A review of recent developments in climate change science. Initial Reaction. This is an eye-opener of an article. The facts presented in the journal Progress in Physical Geography show powerful evidence that the climate is changing faster than earlier believed. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) empirical reports are fascinating to me, and understanding this global threat is important for all citizens. For those who believe conservative talk radio (global

The likelihood that climate change is related to human activity is not given a precise number in the summary; it is noted that eighty-nine percent of seventy-five different studies' more than twenty-nine thousand observational data series support global warming as a cause for observed effects, but this figure does not link the climate change to human activity taken on its own. The authors of the summary state that the connection
