Education What is the Best Way to Educate our Children? Educating our children is one of the most important, even vital, aspects of our society, because it is the hope for our future and our children's future, as well. However, most experts have a hard time agreeing on the best way to educate our children, because there are so many variables to education and how it is delivered.

Basically, there are several schools of thought on everything from standardized testing, computers, and even diversity that are argued when deciding what is the best way to educate our children. Each of these ideas has merit, but ultimately, it is the parents working with their schools that should be the way to help decide the best way to educate our children.

Some people decry diversity, saying it is adding too much of a liberal bent to education and the classroom, and they point to the large number of liberal educators, especially in higher education. The best way to educate our children in this regard is to give them both sides of an argument, such as religion or diversity in the classroom, and give them the critical thinking tools to make their own decisions.

By the time they reach the university level, they should be able to decide for themselves what they believe and do not believe, and the best way to do this is to teach critical thinking, morality, and ethics early in the educational process. Another debate is on standardized testing. Some believe it encouraged teachers to "teach to the test" instead of teaching the basics of education. Others believe this form of standardized testing actually helps boost test scores and creates more community involvement, as well.

People also maintain that standardized testing creates more dynamics and understanding of goals in the classroom, making learning more exciting, and challenging for the student and the teacher. What is the best solution to this problem? With all the differing opinions on testing, diversity, even the use of computers in the classroom is debated, it seems clear that education has fallen behind in this country, and we need to change that. Our students are far behind many other industrialized nations, such as Japan, in many areas of education.

That means that educational theories and models need to change if we want to catch up and surpass these nations. It is also a well-known fact that Asian children often do better in school, and are more motivated than many other children. A look at the National Spelling Bee and other similar competitions tend to show a lot of Asian, homeschooled, and private school students, and perhaps this is where education should change in the future.

Schools should model themselves after private schools, which can sometimes be stricter and more geared to academics than public schools. Many people believe the quality of public education has declined, and while there are some that say this is not true, it seems at least in some areas, that education has declined, while teacher's salaries have increased and class sizes have been reduced. Clearly, something is not right, and America's children are playing for it.

Emulating private education might instill higher educational values in schoolchildren, by placing more emphasis on high-quality education, and creating specialized courses of study for exceptional children. Children who are interested in education can get bored if they are not allowed to follow at least some of their own interests.
