¶ … Databases

There are many databases that I encountered in my work. Some are databases related to the projects I handle and concerns the clients' needs while there are also databases that concern the entire company. One example of this database is the payroll database.

The payroll database contains all the important information that relates to the employees' salary. This includes the number of hours an employee had work, his benefits and incentives, his pay rate, and others. Some of the files that are necessary for this database to properly function are the attendance file (which is also a database) and employee information file. It is a must that the payroll database must contain all the right information. Otherwise, negative consequences may affect the entire company, including the financial tracking and salary of employees. Some of the important fields in the payroll database are the following.

Employee Name

Employee Number

Hourly/Daily Rate

Number of hours worked

Number of available/used leaves

Deductions such as taxes

Payroll date

Overtime pay

Gross and Net Salary

Another important database that I encountered in my work is the Employee Information database. This database contains all the information of every employee such as personal background, professional background, and current status in the company. Every employee in our company finds this database useful because they can check and update their work status there such as listing their current projects as well how the projects are going. Another advantage of this is that the employees' managers, or those to whom they report to, can easily access their information, eliminating the need for unnecessary meetings. Moreover, managers can track their employees' activities, providing them with more information from where they can base their evaluation on their employees. Some of the important fields in this database are the following.

Employee's Name

Position

Department

Reports to Job Responsibilities

Projects Handled

Projects Currently Handling

Achievements

Professional Qualifications

There are still other important databases in our company. However, as payroll and employee information are among the databases that especially affects the entire company, I consider them the most important ones. These databases are perhaps similarly important to every company. These may be the most common databases but definitely the most important ones in terms of managing every company.
