The patient experience measure that Harris opted to focus on is the use of scorecards such as surveys. Specifically, my colleague focused on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). According to Siroky (2015), HCAHPS is a standard measure which allows patient experience data to be compared for various hospitals. The author further suggest that HCAHPS provides incentives to hospitals so as to improve the quality of patient care. As highlighted by Harris, HCAHPS survey can be used to measure patient experience by analyzing aspects such as waiting times so as to determine patients values, needs, and preferences with the intention of making improvements.
