How My Preceptor Helped Me Gain Clinical Understanding Essay

Clinical Experience

Reflecting on my recent clinical experience spanning over 50 hours, I can say it is something that has contributed to my growth as a psychiatric nurse practitioner (NP). This reflection will discuss this growth from the initial clinical rotation in NUR 5520 to my final clinical placement. I will examine some of my attained insights into the work of mental health care, the nature of patient-NP relationships, and what I have seen and felt as the impact of psychiatric interventions.

Relationship with Preceptor and Clinical Goals

My preceptor, AG, has been an important figure in my clinical education. A Molloy University graduate with a background as a Family NP before going into psychiatric nursing, AG is currently pursuing his DNP. His approachability and dedication to teaching have created an enriching learning environment. Our relationship is characterized by mutual respect and a shared commitment to patient care, and it is definitely something that has helped me move towards achieving my clinical goals.
