Religious Sensitivity
Everyone on the planet Earth has their own concept of religion, spirituality and what they believe when it comes to both. Of course, those mindsets and perceptions evolve and change over time. They are influenced by life events, exposure to religion exposure to others when it comes to religion and so forth. However, most situations and applications do not call for religion to even be brought up or discussed. Even so, healthcare is absolutely an exception to the norm given that many people rely and lean on their faith, whatever it may be, when they face their mortality or other levels of health challenges. While some healthcare workers may be hesitant to use the faith or religion of another as a vehicle to soothe and help them, it is the right thing to do so long as the wishes and preferences of the patient are heeded.

Just a few examples of groups that commonly are involved in the leadership and ownership of healthcare organizations include the Jewish people and Catholics. Concurrent to that is the concept of intentionally using faith as a vehicle to help and soothe patients in their time of facing death or extreme pain. One potential intersection of issues and questions that exist is what happens when a patient (or their family) is of one faith and the hospital or personnel on the front lines of the healthcare involved are of another faith. The correct answer, of course, is to either leave religion alone entirely or defer to the preferences and desires of the patient. This can open doors in that a patient will feel at ease when their personal religious perspective respected. However, it can present a barrier to a healthcare worker if they are of a different mindset and cannot (or will not) accept the presence of other faiths or beliefs in their workspace.
