For instance, despite being a Soc, Pony takes times to listen and converse with Cherry, something that he is not expected to do. He relates to the aspect that her issues are just about as real and hurtful as the ones that he is facing.

In the book, there are Socs and Greasers, with the main character of the book being a part of the Greasers gang.
