What is Analysis?

Analysis is one of the most fundamental skills across the social sciences, required in fields ranging from business management and marketing to law, political science, and public policy. Courses in these disciplines ask students to move beyond description and instead evaluate evidence, identify patterns, and draw reasoned conclusions. What makes analysis academically compelling is its versatility: the same core skill — breaking a subject into components to understand how they function together — applies whether the object of study is a corporate strategy, a legal case, a policy framework, or a philosophical concept like piety as discussed in Euthyphro.

The papers archived here reflect a wide range of analytical approaches. Many take a case-study format, examining specific organizations or situations such as Guillermo Furniture Store or JM Smucker's strategic choices to draw broader conclusions about business decision-making. Others are comparative, placing two law cases or decision-making processes side by side to highlight key differences and similarities. Additional papers focus on applied analysis in areas like demand forecasting, knowledge management systems, and marketing, using data and process-oriented frameworks to evaluate real-world outcomes.

A strong analytical essay begins with a focused, arguable thesis that makes a clear claim rather than simply summarizing information. Evidence drawn from data, documented cases, or established frameworks carries the most weight and should be interpreted, not just cited. The most common pitfall is confusing summary with analysis — describing what happened rather than explaining why it matters or what it reveals. Keeping the argument tightly scoped and consistently returning to the central claim throughout the paper will produce a more persuasive and academically credible result.

Rhizobium Bacteria in Soybeans
The microorganism, Bradyrhizobiumjaponicum, displays a symbiotic relationship with soybean plants. There are different factors that may affect the relationship of this microorganism with plant biomass. These factors may be pH, temperature, the nutrition status and density of soil. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different soil treatments, in different soil types, on nodule formation and the dry weight of the plant. For this purpose, soil samples were collected from three locations, namely, at a forest, near a stream and potted soil. Each sample was then analyzed with a hydrometer and classified to a soil type. The forest soil was of clay loam type, the pot soil was loam soil and the stream sample was loamy sand. The samples were subjected to different treatments, such as sterilization and inoculation. The dry weight and number of nodules on each soil type was measured. Results showed that the greatest number of nodules were in plants that were grown in soil samples grown from the stream and least for samples collected from the forest. However, no direct relationship was observed between the number of nodules and dry weight of plants. Moreover, according to observations, the most important factor in determining nodule formation and dry weight of plants was inoculation. These results provide a significant insight to certain factors that may enhance nodule formation and crop yield.

Grand or Mid Range Theory
The practicing nurses started incorporating the nursing theories into their research and practically applying them to real situations during 1970s and 1980s. Majority of the early nursing theories fall in the category of grand theories of nursing because the concepts that described the theories focused on the overall nursing practices. Many nursing theory conferences were organized and held by the nurses to discuss the use of these theories in research and practice. The key theorists presented the methods and ways of practically applying these conceptual frameworks in the practical settings.
