About This Topic

Analysis is one of the most fundamental skills across the social sciences, required in fields ranging from business management and marketing to law, political science, and public policy. Courses in these disciplines ask students to move beyond description and instead evaluate evidence, identify patterns, and draw reasoned conclusions. What makes analysis academically compelling is its versatility: the same core skill — breaking a subject into components to understand how they function together — applies whether the object of study is a corporate strategy, a legal case, a policy framework, or a philosophical concept like piety as discussed in Euthyphro.

The papers archived here reflect a wide range of analytical approaches. Many take a case-study format, examining specific organizations or situations such as Guillermo Furniture Store or JM Smucker's strategic choices to draw broader conclusions about business decision-making. Others are comparative, placing two law cases or decision-making processes side by side to highlight key differences and similarities. Additional papers focus on applied analysis in areas like demand forecasting, knowledge management systems, and marketing, using data and process-oriented frameworks to evaluate real-world outcomes.

A strong analytical essay begins with a focused, arguable thesis that makes a clear claim rather than simply summarizing information. Evidence drawn from data, documented cases, or established frameworks carries the most weight and should be interpreted, not just cited. The most common pitfall is confusing summary with analysis — describing what happened rather than explaining why it matters or what it reveals. Keeping the argument tightly scoped and consistently returning to the central claim throughout the paper will produce a more persuasive and academically credible result.

Anonymous embezzlement tip in high-tech manufacturing internal audit case
Employee theft is noted by Mishra and Prassad (2006) to be a major component of private and public retail shrinkage. There is a consensus that theft in the workplace constitutes a serious offense and is a cause of serious problem (Weber, Kurke & Pentico, 2003).Employees have been noted to steal time, money, merchandise as well as other forms of company property like information in exchange for cash and other forms of favors. In this case we analyse the following scenario: Donald Reynolds, director of the internal auditing department, received an anonymous tip from an employee in one of the high tech manufacturing plants. The employee noted that there was a major embezzlement taking place in one of the divisions. Internal audit had completed a routine review of internal control of that division the previous year and found that the control system was properly designed and operating effectively. Only minor recommendations were made, and the next review is due 3 years later. The employee noted the erratic behavior and lavish lifestyle of the plant controller and stated that the controller has been overriding existing controls, which would prevent any audit from being able to detect the embezzlement. The plant controller is well-respected and highly trusted by the CEO and CFO, and their families are involved in the same civic and religious organizations. Investigating the plant controller could cause considerable disruption in the company and the personal lives of the employees. Please answer the following questions. As you answer each question, you must provide support or evidence that will enhance and empirically prove your answers. Academic criminal justice articles or real life criminal justice findings that are not found in journals or other academic sources must be used in supporting your answers. Please use APA style for all cited sources including your resource page. Given the situation, discuss some of the options the company has for handling this situation. Assuming you decide to investigate these allegations, describe the investigation steps. In preparation for the interviews, note the order of the witnesses who would be interviewed and how you would plan, conduct, and document your interviews. Discuss how you would conduct an admission-seeking interview of the plant controller. Please submit your assignment. Organizational structure and its critical implications
Introduction As with structure, culture is methodologically analyzable by virtue of its emergent status. Indeed, like structure, culture has relational, causal properties of its own, which confront actualizing agency in the form of situational logics (Archer 2006: ch. 7). Cultural analysis is also a multi-level affair, from the doctrinal level, where, for instance, religious doctrine may contradict welfare policy, down to the micro-level. Just as any role within an organization can have contradictory requirements, so can cultural values. However, the problem currently vitiating the literature on ‘organizational culture' is precisely how one can examine the relative interplay between society's ‘prepositional register' and agency when culture is reduced to, or defined solely in terms of, what goes on at the level of causality. The realist assertion that culture as an emergent product has properties of its own is thrown out of the analytical window; or, following Archer, the S-C level is conflated with the CS level.
