What is Children?

Children as a subject within Family Science sits at the intersection of developmental psychology, education, and social policy. Courses in child development, family studies, counseling, and education theory regularly ask students to examine how biological, social, and institutional forces shape children's growth. The topic is academically rich because it connects individual development to broader systems — families, schools, and communities — making it relevant across multiple disciplines. Recurring concerns include how children build cognitive and emotional abilities, how parents and educators support or hinder that process, and how thinkers such as David Elkind have challenged dominant assumptions about childhood, education, and the pressure placed on young learners.

Papers on this topic approach the subject from several distinct angles. Some take a research-design or empirical focus, examining the effects of divorce on children through structured methodologies or single-subject designs. Others are observational, drawing on direct child observation to analyze developmental behavior in real settings. Policy and persuasive angles appear in work on physical education, inclusion education, and competitive versus play-based learning. Literary and rhetorical analysis also surfaces, as in examinations of Cinderella stories, showing that childhood is studied not only through data but through cultural texts. Counseling-focused papers address therapeutic interventions, while nonprofit and community-program angles explore how institutions serve children's needs.

A strong essay on children scopes its thesis around a specific population, context, or outcome rather than addressing childhood in general. Evidence drawn from developmental research, case studies, or policy analysis carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is treating children as a passive subject rather than engaging with how their own agency, environment, and relationships interact to shape outcomes.

Sociological perspectives on cultural opinions
Sociological Cultural Opinions This assignment dealt with two different topics: Jane Elliot's seminal Blue Eyed/Brown Eyed lesson in racism, set forth in the video, A Class Divided; and Howard Zinn's anti-war thoughts in the videos, Empire or Humanity and Just War. Elliot was a courageous, pioneering educator who devised a lesson with an approach that was: timely, because it started immediately after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination and in the late 60's, which were culturally tumultuous in America's history; profoundly effective, because you can see the stunning impact it had on the students and, frankly, because it made some people angry at Elliot, which is frequently a good sign of effectiveness; and forward-thinking, because understanding other races and cultures is a pillar of diversity, which is now acknowledged to be nationally and globally vital. Furthermore, eye color was and is an excellent metaphor for race because it cannot be helped (unless one wears those awful-looking contacts) and it has no bearing on human capabilities. Zinn discussed the possibility of Peace and the truth of War. Despite the persistence of war in History, Zinn's videos, Empire or Humanity and Just War, give eye-opening and positive views of a possible world without war. The conditions preventing peace are certainly powerful and longstanding; however, conditions that support Peace are also plentiful. It is easy to see why Zinn has been called a "happy warrior," as he was an intelligent, insightful, persistent anti-war activist who made a great deal of sense about the true reasons for war and the genuine possibility of Peace.

History and Effects of the Internet on Instruction in K-12 Schools
Creating and sustaining a literate nation capable of democracy, self-government and continuous improvement of quality of life has been a dominant and critical aspect of public education throughout America's history (Ferguson & Huebner, 1996). The amount of information available to students has grown exponentially in recent years. The Internet is a broad and vast territory of information that many children are not equipped to navigate. Now more than ever students need the skills to wade through the waters of information. The current essay is aimed at exploring the history and impact of internet on instruction in K-12 Schools.

Postcolonialism: concepts, contexts, and cultural analysis
The necklace is a throwback to that past, in that it present one with an image of a humanized person. In that way, it manifests numerous messages just as post-colonialism itself is an ideology that is replete with numerous meanings. The post-colonial reaction is the act of replying to the colonial legacy by writing back to the center, to a previous time when the colonized people had their own history and traditions, and using the colonizer's language and symbols (e.g. English and, in this case, Christianity) for that purposes. The necklace featured in this essay is a good example of such an instance.
