What is Classroom?

The classroom is one of the most examined settings in education studies, serving as the central site where theories of learning, teaching practice, and student development intersect. Courses in educational psychology, curriculum design, special education, and teacher preparation all treat the classroom as both a physical environment and a social system worth sustained analysis. What makes it academically interesting is that it sits at the junction of policy, pedagogy, and human behavior — decisions made at the institutional level play out in immediate, measurable ways among students and teachers sharing the same space.

Papers on this topic approach the classroom from several distinct angles. Some focus on instructional methods, examining frameworks like differentiated instruction or the ILPE method and how they shape student learning outcomes. Others take a social lens, analyzing how assertive discipline affects peer relationships or how mainstreaming students with special needs influences classroom dynamics. Policy-oriented papers address pressing workforce issues such as the shortage of special education teachers, while comparative and reflective approaches explore teacher preparation, instructional supervision, and the shift toward virtual and distance learning environments.

A strong essay on the classroom establishes a focused thesis around a specific problem, population, or method rather than treating the topic in general terms. Evidence drawn from observed practice, documented outcomes, or established instructional frameworks tends to carry the most weight. One common pitfall is conflating correlation with causation — for instance, assuming that a teaching strategy improves learning without accounting for variables like class size, student background, or support resources. Keeping the argument tightly scoped and grounded in concrete classroom contexts makes for a much more persuasive analysis.

Implied curriculum in educational practice
One primary negative and disconnect between High School Physical Education and Athletic programs focuses on the overall message engendered through athletic programs. Is the message, for instance, to participate in a sport to hone the body as well as the mind (akin to Ancient Greece)? If this is the case, the swimming, tennis, cross-country, wrestling, and even baseball should receive support from the school. Alternatively, is the idea of an athletic program to engender community support, goodwill, funding, and a way for coaches and players both to have the chance to further their careers into college or professional athletics?

Disproportionate Levels of Educational Achievement Among White
In his comprehensive analysis of disproportionate levels of educational achievement among White and African American students, titled “Powerful Pedagogy for African American Students: A Case of Four Teachers,” researcher Tyrone C. Howard examines the role of teacher effectiveness in terms of reaching this distinct student population. As Howard observes in the opening of his article, “effectively teaching African American students continues to be one of the most pressing issues facing educators ... (and) despite the plethora of school restructuring and educational reforms, the disproportionate underachievement of African American students is a consistent occurrence in U.S. schools” (179), and this alarming phenomenon provides the central premise of his subsequent investigation. Howard elects to focus his qualitative study on the diverse range of socioeconomic, cultural, and regional factors which are likely to exert an impact on the continued underachievement trend within African American student groups. He is also concerned with assessing the role that teacher effectiveness plays in influencing the eventual achievement level of African American students, observing that the disproportional placement of African American students in remedial or special education programs is likely attributable to the growing gap in comprehension between students and those tasked with instructing them. By examining the import of Howard’s conclusions in conjunction with a pair of contemporary contributions to the literature – Mwalimu J. Shujaa’s “Education and Schooling You Can Have One without the Other,” and Carter G. Woodson’s “The Mis-Education of the Negro” – one can begin to draw objective conclusions regarding the phenomenon of underachievement among African American students.
