The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster took place on January 28, 1986 as the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up into pieces just 73 seconds after its launch. The project formulates the problems facing Amtrak Rail using mathematical model such as linear programming and integer programming. The results of the mathematical models have been able to provide optimal solutions to the Amtrak Rail problems. The optimal solutions reveal that Amtrak management needs to integrate operation research model into the planning to save millions of dollars from the costs of operations and thereby enjoy profitability at the end of the fiscal year.
