After a train derailment caused serious injuries to students in a nearby elementary school, the school Nurse Practitioner helped to transport the injured children to the hospital. While there, the NP assisted in the emergency room without being credentialed by the hospital. This in fact was a breach of protocol, and although the hospital officials were greatly concerned about the breach, the nurses were not disciplined, due to the seriousness of the situation and due to the quality of medical assistance that the NP was providing for the children.
