What is School?

School as an academic topic sits at the intersection of education, psychology, sociology, and literature, making it relevant across a wide range of courses and disciplines. Students write about it in education programs, psychology classes, business schools, and humanities seminars alike. The topic is academically rich because it touches on institutional structure, human development, and social policy simultaneously. Papers engage with formal schooling at every level, from early childhood development through graduate programs such as the MBA, and they also treat school as a cultural and literary symbol found in works like Tobias Wolff's Old School, Molière's The School for Wives, and Raphael's The School of Athens.

The papers archived here take notably diverse approaches. Some are analytical and institutional, evaluating curricula using frameworks such as the Saylor, Alexander, and Lewis model, or conducting SWOT analyses of private university MBA programs. Others are empirical and psychological, examining how school-based mental health programs affect emotional intelligence or how test anxiety interacts with question sequence. Still others are personal and reflective, including self-change projects and career-focused writing. Literary and art-historical approaches also appear, treating school as a theme or setting worthy of close reading and cultural interpretation.

A strong essay on school succeeds by committing to a specific, manageable angle rather than treating education in the abstract. Whether the focus falls on teacher-student relationships, curriculum design, student mental health, or a literary portrayal of school life, the thesis should make a clear, arguable claim. Evidence drawn from program data, developmental research, or textual analysis carries more weight than broad generalizations. The most common pitfall is conflating the many meanings of "school" without defining which context — institutional, psychological, or cultural — the essay actually addresses.

Critique of a third grade parts of speech lesson plan
Overall, the lesson is interesting and could be conducted in a manner that is highly engaging to the students. As it is outlined, the lesson covers several parts of speech. Depending on the experience of the children, this may be too broad for an introductory lesson. I discuss this in more detail elsewhere in this review of your lesson. I appreciate the way that you have structured the lesson plan in its written format; I recognized your application of our coaching session discussion in your outline. Several of the components of the lesson plan could use more detail and specifics to guide you in the event that you put lesson plan away and pull it out to use some time in the future.

The work of Stephen Brookfield states that critical reflection is the method to revealing the worth of teaching and critically reflective teachers "are excellent teachers who continually hone their personalized ‘authentic voice' a ‘pedagogic rectitude' that reveals the ‘value and dignity' of the teacher's work ‘because now we know what it's worth." (p.46-7) The critically reflective teacher has a goal to achieve a goal of an in-depth awareness of their teaching from as many perspectives as they can. Brookfield states there are four lenses the teacher can engage in the critical reflection process including: (1) the autobiographical; (2) the student's eyes; (3) our colleague's experiences; and (4) theoretical literature. (Brookfield, 1995 cited in: Arts Teaching & Learning Network, nd, p.1)

Large age differences in romantic relationships are often commented on in the social media; however, when a teenager or minor is involved, society reserves the right to become involved legally. Although some would argue that age differences may not matter that much for minors, research results have shown that teenage women involved with much older men are less likely to use contraceptives, and more likely become pregnant and give birth. This essay reviews the research findings and discusses the implications.

My experience becoming a teacher at ICCD School
Out of all things I expected myself to do, teaching was probably the least of my expectations. However, things unraveled and led me to get a job at ICCD School. Prior to this job, I had no experience as a teacher at any level. However, I had been raised by two parents in the field of education, both of whom would always come home with their share of amazing stories that I enjoyed hearing. I also got an ample amount of opportunities observing my parents at their work place, during breaks, when they would be busy with enrichment programs and would bring me along so that I would be able to spend quality time with them. Although I can't say I spent a lot of time bonding with them during their working hours, I can doubtlessly say I got to learn a lot from those trips. I believe it is because of them that I was inclined to accept a job offer from ICCD.

Phonemic awareness and phonics in early elementary balanced literacy
Phonemic awareness and phonics are two components of a balanced literacy program in K – 3 classrooms. Phonemic awareness is the understanding that words are made of sounds. Phonics builds on this awareness by teaching the relationships between sounds and letter-symbols. Research supports direct instruction of these components as a precursor to reading success. Commercially-published programs and books, software and apps, and numerous Internet sources can provide teachers with materials needed for a strong program of direct, explicit instruction. Kindergarten programs level attempt to level the playing field, as students begin school at various stages of reading readiness. Phonics builds on early phonemic awareness activities. By the time students are in third grade, they are starting to "read to learn" instead of "learning to read."
