What is School?

School as an academic topic sits at the intersection of education, psychology, sociology, and literature, making it relevant across a wide range of courses and disciplines. Students write about it in education programs, psychology classes, business schools, and humanities seminars alike. The topic is academically rich because it touches on institutional structure, human development, and social policy simultaneously. Papers engage with formal schooling at every level, from early childhood development through graduate programs such as the MBA, and they also treat school as a cultural and literary symbol found in works like Tobias Wolff's Old School, Molière's The School for Wives, and Raphael's The School of Athens.

The papers archived here take notably diverse approaches. Some are analytical and institutional, evaluating curricula using frameworks such as the Saylor, Alexander, and Lewis model, or conducting SWOT analyses of private university MBA programs. Others are empirical and psychological, examining how school-based mental health programs affect emotional intelligence or how test anxiety interacts with question sequence. Still others are personal and reflective, including self-change projects and career-focused writing. Literary and art-historical approaches also appear, treating school as a theme or setting worthy of close reading and cultural interpretation.

A strong essay on school succeeds by committing to a specific, manageable angle rather than treating education in the abstract. Whether the focus falls on teacher-student relationships, curriculum design, student mental health, or a literary portrayal of school life, the thesis should make a clear, arguable claim. Evidence drawn from program data, developmental research, or textual analysis carries more weight than broad generalizations. The most common pitfall is conflating the many meanings of "school" without defining which context — institutional, psychological, or cultural — the essay actually addresses.

Constructivism and constructive psychotherapy: theoretical foundations and clinical application
Constructivism is a theoretical perspective that asserts that people attempt to make sense of the world by developing their own set of personal individualized constructs. Personal experience, interpretation, social context, and linguistic factors define a person's subjective reality. Constructive psychotherapy focuses on individual experience, personal resilience, change, and the therapeutic relationship to assist people with change. The current article asserts that constructivism and constructive psychotherapies heavily draw from principles of past theorists such as George Kelly and Kurt Lewin, and constructivism and constructive psychotherapies do not represent facets of a new paradigm. In this sense constructive psychotherapy is not a unified form of psychotherapy but instead a form of integrated psychotherapy. Finally the article applies five basic principles of constructivism: activity, order, the self, social-symbolic relations, and lifespan development in the proposed psychotherapy of Sam, a man who is experiencing frustration and anger-management issues at his work and in his relationships. The therapeutic process is viewed as an integration of several schools of psychotherapeutic thought.

Nina Jablonski's analysis of skin color and evolutionary adaptation
Nina Joblonski opens by commenting on Darwin's pigmentation and his upbringing. She further speaks of his voyage on the Beagle and his interest in the pigmentation of humans. Darwin did not believe that there was any correlation to skin pigmentation and climate. However, Joblonski points out that if Darwin had access to NASA satellites that he may have come to a different conclusion. One of NASA's satellites has capabilities to monitor the Earth's radiation close to the surface. As a result, researchers today have been able to study skin pigmentation and the exposure to solar radiation and find that there is a perfect gradient and strong correlation between the two.

Principal's response to alleged pornographic images in classroom
When a technology teacher is not in control of her students, inappropriate things can happen, and that is the case in this paper. While the teacher was in the classroom (helping a student one-on-one) other students apparently logged onto a pornographic website, and some students apparently saw pornographic images. That caused the principal of the school to get busy and solve the problem. This paper shows how he worked to solve the problem.

Administrative implementation of the behavioral matrix for school discipline
The challenges of maintaining disciplinary order in the classroom are almost as important as the educational goals. It is incumbent upon an effective teacher to also maintain an orderly and non-disruptive student body. The discussion here shows the role that a school wide Behavioral Matrix can help drive procedural but pragmatic norms for contending with problematic or inappropriate behavior.
