Secondary Data Review: Customer Service and Web-Based Credentials Verification

The greatest challenge of IT both internationally and within my country is overcoming fear of new systems and resistance to change. Driven by the economic realities of today and the fact many employees are afraid of any change that might impact their salaries or jobs, it is commonplace to see strong resistance to change, even if the new system is going to mean greater global growth for the company (King, Flor, 2008). There is also a strong fear of jobs being outsourced and a lack of control over when and how jobs will be delegated to 3rd party IT outsourcing companies (Mann, 2004). Resistance to change and the entire area of change management are the most difficult to manage from both an international and country-specific perspective today in the field of IT. A second most challenging aspect of IT globally today is the need to integrate with and reliably use legacy systems in the daily performance of key tasks within an enterprise. Many times legacy systems were developed with a specific mindset of never having to be integrated with any other system or Web Services, which did not exist when many of these initial systems were created. At a global level, this lack of integration standards has drastically reduced the level of productivity and profitability of companies over the long-term. The use of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) platforms and the pervasive adoption of integration standards has set the foundation for Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Web Services (Li, Berry, 2004). EAI-based integration strategies are highly effective for managing support fo and use of legacy data located across broad international and regional areas, and with secured networking now commonplace through use integration protocols as IPSec, organizations are now able to create highly effective global networks using reliable, secured technologies (Patel, 2002). This level of integration is making the next major challenge of IT internationally and specifically in my country more surmountable.

The more critical aspect of any enterprise-wide security management strategy is to align system resources to the strategic initiatives and goals of an organization. Increasingly this is being accomplished through the use of role-based access and authentication privileges and process workflows that audit and evaluate use of sensitive information (Shih, Wen, 2005). The role of enterprise security management drastically changes however when ubiquitous Web Services are used for capturing, aggregating, analyzing and effectively using confidential data to make financial decisions (Phifer, 2011). The intent of this analysis is to evaluate how intrusion and intrusion detection systems can be used in the 21rst century, state-of-the-art IT systems that are to a large extent Cloud-based and often have remote access points that make them particularly vulnerable (Phifer, 2011). Also included is an assessment of the types and threats from hackers and the risk they pose to confidential corporate data. Enterprise best practices dictates that a company control assets by multiple levels, authentication approaches and through architectural constraints that minimize risk while also providing agility and quickness of retrieval (Microsoft, 2011).

Proctor and Gamble (P&G) faced growth constraints and customer relationship management (CRM) issues with its large retail clients such as Wal-Mart. Disintegrated operational and business level management, lack of strategic direction, and poor CRM were the main issues faced by the company. Unnecessary competition with its own customers and hostile price/margin negotiations were draining out the strategic growth opportunities that a company, as large as P&G could have achieved with an improvement in internal processes and CRM. Having considered these issues through contemporary research based business process models, it is recommended that P&G should alter its organizational culture, strategy, and adopt CRM approach.

The reliance on agent-based technologies for software development continues to evolve, with Web Services and intelligent agents based on heuristics continually gaining in acceptance. Despite their continued acceptance and growth there are still limitations to each of these technologies mentioned in this comparative analysis. Heuristic analysis and the use of self-optimization techniques ar also discussed.
