FINDINGS

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is unique in that it works in coordination with so many U.S. agencies as well as working in coordination with foreign agencies on an international basis. The Drug Enforcement Administration is accountable to and regularly assessed for compliance by the U.S. Department of Justice and as well, the DEA is assessed for other issues of accountability in its project management and administration. The primary goal of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is the enforcement of controlled substances laws and regulations of the U.S. And to bring individuals, organizations and other entities involved in growing, manufacturing or distribution of controlled substances to the U.S. court system for prosecution. The Administrator of the DEA is president-appointed and assisted by the following (1) Deputy Administrator; (2) Chief of Operations; (3) Chief Inspector; (4) Assistant Administrators for the Operations Support Division; (5) Intelligence Division; and (6) Human Resources Division. (Policy Office of National Drug Control Policy, 1999; 1) the Drug Enforcement Administration maintains 21 domestic Field Divisions with 237 Field Offices and 80 Foreign Office in 58 countries and employs over 11,000 individual which includes 5,000 special agents. The organization of the Drug Enforcement Administration is such that involves many other agencies interacting and working with the DEA to accomplish its mission.
