I do agree with the author's conclusion since it reflects the true spirits of the Culturally Competent Model of Care which treats cultural awareness, cultural skill, cultural encounter and cultural knowledge as critical components of the concept of cultural competence. It is indeed true that the attitude, skill, knowledge as well as role of nurses in the provision of a culturally competent psychiatric/mental health care is a complex issue. The may perceive that they are indeed providing a culturally competent care when in reality they lack the requisite skills and knowledge as noted by Campinha-Bacote (2003).
