Advance Health Assessment

The patient who, in this case, is under an advanced health assessment will be analyzed in terms of various factors. The socioeconomic factors have affected the patient’s health since he is unemployed, so he went back to live with his parents. The patient cannot make healthy choices; therefore, he cannot accumulate savings that he can use for his medication since he is HIV positive (Erikson et al., 2019). Secondly, the lifestyle factors affecting this patient are smoking two packages of cigarettes daily for the last ten years and smoking 3-6 joints of marijuana each weekend. This has resulted in the patient suffering from depression, a behavioral factor. Regarding cultural factors, the patient goes against moral values and beliefs by changing his gender from a female to a male. It accompanies the spiritual aspects because it is against the religious observances for one to change their gender identity; this makes him take 100 mg Testosterone IM each week, which affects his health.

To build on the health history of this patient, it is essential to analyze his past health history, which includes smoking cigarettes that have taken him a decade, smoking marijuana, and his HIV-positive status for the last three years (Kraft et al., 2018). Since there are no family histories, the functional assessments should be done, which involve daily activities how he deals with stress, and John often takes marijuana. In terms of cultural examination, his health history of changing his gender identity and decision not to get married will be found. It can be possible by asking questions to gather the information. Some of the sensitive questions on background, lifestyle, and culture would include; why he decided to change his gender identity.

To be on the patient’s health history, some of the questions would include; ‘Why did he opt to start taking drugs like marijuana?, How does he manage his stress?, What are the consequences of using testosterone? How can he manage to live his HIV status? Why did he decide not to get involved in marriage? There are, however, some challenges when communicating with patients, and in this case, since the information is sensitive (Wang & Geng, 2019). The patient may fear opening up about his HIV status and gender identity. The strategies to be used by the nurse to obtain the information may include making it a discussion and not like an interrogation. It will help the nurse to gather information from the patient without straining.
