Asian Art History

What had the Greatest Impact on Artistic Impression?

Throughout the centuries there were those techniques that would have an impact on the art of East Asia. To fully understand how these ideas were developed requires comparing three different works with the innovations that have taken place. Once this occurs, it will provide specific insights about how modern developments would influence artistic techniques.

Three of the greatest innovations that would have an influence on artist include: the use of wood in construction, bronze casting techniques and the use of stoneware. The three works of art that we will be comparing with the different innovations are: the model house of the Han Dynasty, Guang and the Neighing Horse.

The Model House of the Han Dynasty

Wooden construction would lead to significant innovations in building techniques throughout China. This would have an impact on the way houses were being built to include: providing support and separating various rooms inside a particular structure. Some of the most notable innovations that were developed include: the use of support beams, struts, purloins and rafters. These different elements are important, because they allowed buildings to be constructed with solid materials. At which point, designers could begin creating larger and more elaborate structures. ("China and Korea 1729")

The model house of the Han Dynasty is good representation of the new techniques that were being utilized. In this particular case, the use of beams was designed to create a four story structure that was made almost entirely of wood. This allowed engineers to be able to construct a building that was capable of withstanding the various elements. At the same time, it allowed them to create new designed in the roof. This helped to define Chinese architecture from the period. ("China and Korea 1729")

The Neighing Horse

The use of stoneware, allowed artists the ability to be able to: create real depictions of actual people and things. This helped artisans to design a real life representation of their subjects. They would then paint these images, to illustrate the emotions and feelings that were being experienced. This is important, because it helped to create new ways that artists could be able to: represent their subjects and the world around them.

A good example of this can be seen with the Neighing Horse. As, the sculpture would represent a real life depiction of: the horses that were used by Tang dynasty. Where, the use of colors and the way the horse is well groomed is: highlighting the pride that they took in their animals. This significant, because it is showing how this form of art allowed many new depictions of different subjects in life. Over the course of time, this helped future generations to appreciate the life and times of the artist who created it. ("China and Korea 1729")

Clearly, the various innovations that were examined had a dramatic impact on the world of art. This is because they created new ways of: representing subjects and the times the artists were living in. As a result, the three works that were discussed are illustrating these new techniques and how they would impact future generations.
