Cute Creations" a company that manufactures decorative products for the home and office is owned by Doris Cervantes. Recently, the company decided to upgrade their environment by incorporating computer systems to utilize the efficiency and effectiveness perceived from an online environment. She started this business in the early 1990's, maintaining the company database on files.

When she decided to upgrade the company with computer systems, the main objective of her decision was to implement systems whereby all the important company information and data could be maintained electronically on databases. This decision was taken in the light of new advancement in technology, especially keeping in mind that with an organized electronic database, expansion of the company would pose no problems at all. Some of the database management approaches, recommended to her included inventory tracking, marketing research and preparation, sales projection and various financial reports.

Keeping in view the changes that needed to be made, Doris Cervantes agreed with the business computer solutions to structure her database. The first task at hand was to upgrade the outdated computer to start off with the project. To provide all the information online to authorized personal, one computer was set to serve as the web server, the task of this computer would be to redirect all data queries to the main database server.

Another enhancement in the network would include the main database server using the outdated computer with new installments of an up-to-date CPU, motherboard, RAM, and hard disk along with two PDA's with the Internet facility. This system would cater to back-end data entry interface and a web-front interface. The function of this new system will be to maintain inventory control and provide usable data tracking methods.

The next task at hand would be to categorize the crafts into different sub-categories so s to create a digital archive of all the items using SQL scripts to manage the production and sales online instead of manually. For sales promotion, the web page would be linked to the database with information on the cost, quantities, colors, and availability. This system would manage the raw materials needed for making the product along with the costs and other relevant information for the company staff.

To cater to customers and other clients, the company website can serve as the point of contact between them and the company enabling them to place orders and even have access to the stock available The consultancy team met all the requirements in their plan and succeeded because with so many new changes they stuck to the principle of simplicity. Upgraded Office Environment Inventory Control The two main modules in the warehouse management system are control product and order module, which enables customers to keep track of their orders.

Order module is used for assigning the order to the production department to complete the order requirement. The warehouse management system is used to effectively control the processes of ordering, transferring, delivering and shipping of business products. Warehouse Management can also be used in collaboration with ERP systems, when future expansion takes place. Accounting: HouseHold Accounting for Windows is one software that can be used by this company to maintain their income & expense bookkeeping and for bank and credit card accounts.

The software has the facilities of tracking account balances, transfers between accounts, backup utilities, import and export of data, entry archiving, multiple reports, check writing, reminder functions, security, sounds and animation, Internet bookmarks, live update, send database by email, online Help. HouseHold Accounting can even be used for improve financial planning and control. Marketing: One of the best marketing techniques is to use direct marketing with customers through a web-based database. This will also make the Internet into a medium of purchasing products online.

Traditional marketing is where customers are told to buy a certain product. However, the Internet gives consumers more control on their buying power and decisions. Another technique that could be employed is using e-coupons, with the company offering promotions online that can be exchanged at the company's outlet. Also valued customers can be kept updated on new products through emailed newsletters. Manufacturing: Many successful companies believe that manufacturing flexibility is an important factor in achieving competitive advantage in their industry. E-business is playing and important role in improving manufacturing flexibility.

With E-business the Internet and other Web technologies can be integrated to improve the performance of the company's manufacturing. Flexibility can be used to make a wide range of products in different quantities without hindering performance. E-business also improves sharing of information between manufacturing department and suppliers by enabling low cost, and the use of Internet-based technology. This technology supports faster, secured, and timely sharing of critical data for demand plans, production plans, available inventory, existing equipment, tooling information.
