¶ … RAD university website. This author picked the tutorials on the SCTP, TCP and UDP protocols. The essay will include a brief description of the tutorials, what they teach and why these particular ones were picked. It will specifically touch upon advantages that the protocols in the tutorials provide businesses in network applications. This is important because we need to understand how these technologies apply to achieve goals for businesses.

Tutorials Chosen

The author found the tutorials on SCTP, TCP and UDP due to their clarity and simplicity. For the author, simplicity and reliable in connection protocols are the most important factors to be considered in businesses applications.

SCTP

The tutorial is very organized, giving a very simple user experience. It is short, with only the most important information included. It is well within the 3 click rule, with no necessary information being very many clicks away. The tutorial architecture is composed of the table of contents being configured on the left and with only 10 cards to go through. They can be accessed quickly and easily.

SCTP applications are great for business applications because of their reliability. They can submit their data in messages (groups of bytes) directly to the SCTP transport layer. The protocol is compatible with a number of different applications, a very important advantage. What is very important is that the tutorial lists the other most widely used comparable protocol which in this case is TCP.

TCP

The tutorial architecture is similar to that for SCTP, but it is even simpler. Besides having the table of contents on the left and small number of cards with only the basic information listed, it also allows the user to mover around the page due to hyperlinks at the top.

In contrast, to SCTP, TCP is a stream-oriented protocol, transporting huge amounts of data reliably and in order. In terms of business related, like SCTP, the protocol is very reliable information. It helps out the business network by appending more bytes to a queue of bytes that are waiting to go out a network. It does this rather than having to keep a queue of separate outbound messages individually that must be preserved in that format. In terms of the user experience, the TCP protocol waste two cards where there is no useful technical information on them.

UDP

Of the three UDP appears to be the most reliable and versatile of the three protocols. The big advantage of the tutorial for the UDP is easy to move around in and has a manageable amount of readable information. Unfortunately, the tutorial does not spend as much time mentioning that UDP is an older protocol. While fine for applications that are non-time sensitive, UDP does not have a secure handshake method like other protocols. This is because UDP uses a very simple transmission model that does not have without implicit handshaking dialogues. This results in less reliability, data integrity and ordering. In this way, UDP provides a less reliable service and the datagrams may arrive out of order, may appear duplicated, or go missing without notice.
