Confusing Over the Course of the Semester,

¶ … Confusing Over the course of the semester, there were many things that surprised and intrigued me and unfortunately, sometimes confused me; but, upon reflection there are three specific instances that rise to the top in terms of classifying it as surprising, intriguing and confusing Foremost, over the course of the semester I was most intrigued by the masters of the Venetian renaissance, Giorgione and Titan.

The images that both captured in their art work are interesting and mysterious and leaves more to the viewer's imagination and thoughts than one may think upon first glance. Both artists painted religious symbols, mythological figures and while also capturing more human figures and scenes leaves much to be desired. The way in which Giorgine and Titan worked in the same way and were able to construct such beautiful yet mysterious works of arts is truly intriguing.

The colors are vibrant and their attention to detail is incredible and to think that these painters constructed their works in the late 15th century is quite intriguing.

The images that these artists choose to focus on are themselves quite interesting in that they tell a story but only capture one single snapshot of that story- the art work they paint, like The Three Philosopher, which was started by Giorgine and finished by Titan, leave much to the viewers mind which to me, is the most intriguing part about these particular artists and art work as whole (Kren and Marx, 2010).

Furthermore, I was surprised by how beautiful the Gothic Style of art is, as my Italian education never did focus on this part of the Gothic Style and the nuances that come with it. The gothic art has vibrant colors and is an interesting period of the history of art. I was surprised to find that this led to the architecture that I really enjoy- gothic art. Some of the most beautiful structures, churches and the like, are based on this artwork.

I was very surprised that some of the darkest times in history, yielded this type of art. But, over the course, it did confuse as me as to why Mesopotamia was focused on, as I had always believe that Roman and Grecian history had always played the largest role in Mediterranean history overall.

We have always heard about the might of the Roman Empire and the progress of their civilization, as well as civilization in Greece and their contributions to history and the modern world; Mesopotamia is something I found was something that conflicted with my previous thoughts about this time period. I understand that civilization began here but, where was the impact on the modern world and the art work that we have studied?
