Leaving the Comfort Zone -- why is this so difficult?

People often find themselves limited to a series of thinking methods and behavior patterns that make them feel comfortable and are reluctant to abandon them because they know that this would make them feel nervous. The fact that they are accustomed to particular acts, places, foods, and friends makes it difficult for them to look forward to putting across innovative attitudes and influences them in feeling that they are presently in a condition that does not require change. These individuals basically come to believe that change is bad because it takes everything that they love away from them. Even with the fact that they are aware that there might be better things waiting for them if they perform a restructuring process, they are hesitant about doing so because they think about the risks associating with taking on this behavior.

In order to gain a simple understanding of the comfort zone, one would have to imagine the shallow end of a pool and a person who is unwilling to leave it in favor of the other hand because he or she is afraid that his or her swimming abilities are not going to assist him or her in the process. This person might never be able to enjoy all of his or her pool as long as he or she refuses to go there.

One of the most intriguing things about the comfort zone is that most people are well-acquainted with the fact that they are predisposed to experiencing unhappy events in spite of the fact that they continue to perform their daily duties. The masses generally prefer to choose short-time happiness over long-time happiness. Their reluctance to perform certain tasks that are discomforting for a short while makes it difficult for them to experience pleasurable feelings in the long run.

Most people are hesitant about leaving their comfort zones because they are afraid that they are going to fail if they try new things and that it is best for them to avoid coming across a situation where they would feel uncomfortable. The fear of consequences is one of the most important things about people who are unable to leave their comfort zones. Being unwilling to leave a comfort zones is practically the same thing as being unable to leave it. People constantly bombard themselves with negative feelings concerning exploring new territories and eventually render themselves inoperable. By considering that it would be very dangerous to try new things people eliminate the risks associated with these things. However, they concomitantly limit themselves and make it impossible for themselves to experience progress, both from a personal and from a professional point-of-view.
