Human resource management has played an important part in helping any organization to reach out to its employees. This enhances their international business strategy and ability to connect with a variety of stakeholders. What happening, is they are effectively evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of staff members from the moment they begin working at a firm. This is because personnel from this department will have the responsibilities for: recruitment, hiring, benefits, grievances and terminations. (Shen 2009)
At the same time, they often employ consultants who understand the traditions, customs and practices of local labor markets. This allows the company to create customizable packages that will appeal to a select demographic of candidates. Moreover, personnel from this department will understand where to find the best employees and what is most important to them. This helps the firm to locate staff members who are reliable and can increase their bottom line results. The combination of these factors is illustrating how human resource management practices, will decide if an organization is successful internationally. (Shen 2009)
For example, IBM is known for having operations in numerous countries around the globe. One of the cornerstones for their success is with human resource management playing a central role. The way that this is accomplished is they will learn about and understand the specific customs / practices of a region. They will take the most important attributes and combine them with the general company policies and procedures. (Sparrow 2011)
During the process of looking for new employees, is when executives will compare if they have these attributes. This allows IBM to create a workforce that is embracing local customs and traditions. Yet, it is following the practices and structure of the firm. Over the decades, this basic approach has allowed the company to take advantage of new opportunities in specific areas and quickly adapt. (Sparrow 2011)
Human resource management is playing a critical part in helping the firm to locate and retain employees inside different regions of the world. They are able to achieve these objectives by understanding how to augment cultural traditions, addressing the individual's needs and creating an environment that embraces company practices.
