Managing Homeland Security
The government is responsible for the safety of its citizens whether in the country or in foreign countries. The department of intelligence conducts internal and external instigations to ensure that its citizens are safe. The war on terror was instigated by the American government thus its citizens are at the risk of being exposed to terror threats. The American government has set up embassies across the globe which monitors the operations of their citizens in the foreign nation. Kenya is one such country in which the American country has an embassy. The American embassy had been attacked in 1997 killing some American citizens. This forced the department of internal security to put measures to protect the citizens in foreign countries. The September eleventh incident showed that America is also exposed to the acts of terrorism that faces other nations.
One of the recent events with regards to homeland security is the travel ban to Kenya to protect Americans. Kenya is a popular tourism destination which plays a significant role in the economy of the county. The nation has seen an increase in terrorist attacks after the country invaded the unstable Somali to drive out the terror group Al-Shabab. The Islamist group is connected to the Al-Qaida group which is responsible for many terror attacks on Americans and on American soil. The Kenyan government invaded the country after the group kidnapped tourists from the costal town of Lamu. The group was also responsible for various incidents of piracy which had increased insurance cost along this channel. The nation which had been unstable for a long time is being established by African forces in corroboration with United Nations.
According to the U.S. government, the travel advisory warned all the United States citizens against traveling to the costal town of Mombasa which is near to the Somali nation. The threat was issued after the U.S. intelligence unearthed credible information about an eminent attract on the costal town. The town has suffered from a series of grenade attacks which have left many Kenyans citizens injured. The increasing incidents of explosive material in the nation from Ukraine were netted by the Kenyan police. Kenya with the help of American intelligence has netted has arrested the suspects awaiting trial.
Attacks in the Kenyan nation should be investigated using the right procedures. The explosive material in the area where the attacks have been experienced should be isolated to avoid contamination of evidence. There is also a need to collect evidence from witnesses in the area. The witnesses in the area of incident have crucial evidence which can lead to the arrest of the terrorist. The procedures of evidence collection and preservation can be useful in identifying the source of the explosive and during the trial. The police should ensure that the people are dispersed from the area to ensure that they are not injured by another attack. The police should also set up a perimeter where authorized personnel should be allowed to prevent contamination of the crime scene.
