Reflection on becoming a nurse

Generally, there has been notion that a nurse has to be in white starched dress uniform and a cap. That uniform meant handmaiden or somebody who is to take orders; however it had also a meaning of purity, compassion and care. The days have come where only few persons are always found in this white and uniform and even the dresses. Majority of nurses have changed from wearing uniform as they perform their duties, it is no longer a must to wear such uniform, therefore the uniform no-longer defines a nurse.

Nursing impact lives by providing a job. It is a profession that one can do to earn a living. One works in a patient care setting such as home health organizations, long-term facilities, outpatient centers, and hospitals, by the end of the day a paycheck for the services offered is received. While working as a nurse you get the privilege of interacting with people from all walks of life and provide them with care. In your work you do things for different individuals that are able to impact their lives in a way that they remain to remember throughout their life. As we are aware that when one is joining healthcare arena, they may not be at their best; as a nurse you will always encounter people at their worst as well as when they are in their most intimate, challenging and frightening moments in life, yet the nurse remain...

Apart from providing good money, there is flexibility in terms of scheduling as well as various opportunities for different types of employment and promotions. Through nursing an individual is able to learn a specific skill set; working on the cutting edge of technology with people who are brilliant. In this profession, an individual get the opportunity of serving others, changing people's lives through prevention, care, and wellness. Through nursing one finds a platform to land in other many positions. The many skills that are always learnt in nursing tend to be of value when transferred the rest of careers such as human resources, entrepreneurs, financial planning, or business recruiting. Nursing as a career prepares an individual to be capable of handling almost everything.
Nursing as a career does not only mean remaining a bedside nurse. Attributes that have always been associated with nursing are ethical, hardworking, caring, and compassionate. When one exhibit such characteristics they become part of their identity. Moreover, they continue to go with you all through your life and career. As a nurse you are problem-solver, critical thinkers, highly creative, and trained observers.

When you are a nurse there is need to determine the kind of values you express on the job. One can accept the responsibility for the care you are to give as well as the tasks…
