Oranye J.
Oranye J. makes an observation to the effect that quality and safety are fundamental components if an organization is to be able to achieve its corporate goals. Medical errors are among the leading causes of death in USA. Nevertheless, Rodziewicz et al. (2022) suggest that it is often hard to establish the root cause of medical errors. Therefore, designing systems that prevent people from doing the wrong thing as highlighted by Oranye happens to be an important step in preventing medical errors. This is more so the case given that a culture of safety recognizes challenges related to safety and implements solutions that are viable instead of upholding a culture of punishment and blame (Rodziewics et al., 2022). The authors further suggest that healthcare professionals tend to be reluctant to report errors if they establish that reporting the said errors would lead to punishment. Oranye also indicates that in his role as a DNP, he will ensure safety by working as a change agent through education, collaboration, and utilization of evidence-based practices. Education is important given that it emphasizes the importance and methodologies of avoiding medical errors (O’Daniel and Rosenstein, 2008). On the other hand, poor communication creates situations for medical errors to occur.
Maloof K.
Maloof K. observes that quality and safety of patients is maintained by systems that advance knowledge of the quality measures that are used in nursing practice. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2021), quality measures are important in clinical practice given that they help healthcare providers acquire crucial insights and thus improve healthcare outcomes through benchmarking. Benchmarking helps healthcare providers gain professional knowledge through research opportunities. As a result, quality improvement progress can be accurately tracked. Maloof also indicates that in his role as a DNP, he would be able to follow up on issues related to quality and safety. Follow-ups are important in ensuring quality and safety of patients. This is more so the case given that patient perceptions tend to change during treatment progress. Therefore, follow-ups helps healthcare providers to measure perceived quality at each stage and thus generate better understanding of their patient’s interaction with healthcare systems (Hanefeld et al, 2017).
