It is said that "once you have mapped your stakeholders you can focus your efforts on the highest priority groups while providing sufficient information to keep the less powerful groups happy" (Morphy 2011). This is a critical component of analyzing the stakeholders of the Miami-Dade Police Department. As with all local police forces, the ultimate objective of the organization is to preserve public safety, both of residents and of tourists, even though other competing stakeholders may make demands. Prioritization of the needs of the public is critical not only to preserve the lives of individuals, but also to ensure that Miami remains financially solvent, as businesses will struggle in the future if the city is not perceived as safe. The police department also has a responsibility to engage in community outreach to institutions such as schools communicate its message and enhance public trust and to establish connections with other safety personnel during the upcoming convention.
