Identify issues that occurred during CPOE implementation, identify potential causes of such issues, and list specific recommendations, based on evidence- based rationale and research, to resolve the identified issues prior to the next CPOE implementation. Elaborate on a scripture/bible quote reference related to the discussion content.

To begin the first issue with the CPOE implementation is that all participants where not properly onboarded within the community hospital. As noted in the case study, many physicians were heavily resistant to the change and deliberately attempted to the undermine the system to maintain the status quo. Here, these provides evidence that all physicians were not properly onboarded throughout the CPOE process. Although resistance to change is to be expected with a technology shift as large as the one mentioned in the case, it is not customary to have such vehement disagreement and outright disregard for the policy overall (Chern, 1992). This indicates that physicians may have a deficiency with properly leveraging the technology for their benefit. Here, although it appears that healthcare professionals where trained on the specific technology, the implementation overlooked the fact that many physicians may not have technological expertise to begin with. In addition, it appears that properly feedback was not obtained by all those using the technology. The technology may have been implemented without regard to all users of the technology and confirmation that all users understand how to leverage the technology for their own personal benefit. Finally, the blatant disregard for authority, policies and procedures speaks to a cultural issue within the facility. Many of the physicians believe they can get away with not following the established rules in the hospital. This has a trickle-down impact as it lower level employees, following the lead of physicians may begin to disregard the rules. Here, leadership must insist that all healthcare staff adhere to the CPOE implementation as originally intended. As 1 Corinthians 14:40 notes, “ But all things should be done decently and in order.” This verse describes the need for the hospital to first have order as it relates to all staff members following the corporate directive. Next, leadership must look to identify the physicians not complying with the directive and take action accordingly (Clinton, 1993).
