Trudged Through Another Day At Essay

¶ … trudged through another day at the office, it hit me like a knockout punch -- I did not want to work in the financial world any longer. I had been moonlighting as a home health care provider, something I never really thought of as a career. Working with seniors was just something I had wanted to do, not something I had previously thought of as a career. I earned a Bachelor's degree in finance and eagerly stepped into the business world after college. Yet I did not feel fulfilled at all. My work was unrewarding and tedious.

One day one of the seniors I had been taking care of said to me, "Oh, I wish you could stay on," she smiled up at me. "Any chance we can talk you into it?" I shook my head sadly, held her hand and left for work. It was exactly then that I realized that what might really make me happy would be to leave the world of finance and shift gears. Instead of working in the business world, I would take care of the business of helping others to feel better and reach their optimal health.

I have already been doing that as a home health care provider, which is why I foresee specializing in care for the elderly. Remaining dedicated to the vocational nursing program will not be a problem, because I have clear goals and aspirations as well as a high expectation for success and self-fulfillment. I look forward to applying myself to the world of nursing. Although it is daunting to return to school after a few years away from it, I know that I can no longer find any joy continuing with the financial office that I have worked for.

I am applying to the Vocational Nurse program with the intention of being able to help others, especially seniors, thrive through the skillful application of vocational nursing practices. I have a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and patience and will contribute much to the program as a student. Thank you for your consideration.
