This admission essay effectively demonstrates personal motivation and institutional fit through specific program details and clear academic goals. The response directly addresses NYU's prompt while showcasing the student's research into university offerings.
The essay employs a strategic approach by first establishing the value proposition of NYU's Liberal Studies program, then systematically connecting each personal interest (visual arts, sciences, creative writing) to specific university resources and facilities. This demonstrates both genuine interest and thorough research while maintaining focus on academic exploration rather than career certainty.

NYU boasts a dizzying variety of programs, majors, and schools. It also acknowledges that students like myself often enter the school with several passionate interests, and wish to go on a journey of exploration, rather than embark upon college with a clear sense of their final destination in college and in life. The Liberal Studies program and the Liberal Studies Core is two years. If accepted, by the end of my sophomore year I will be able to decide to transfer to another program and complete my bachelor’s degree.
I hope to engage in rigorous exploration of what I want to do at NYU and with my future. I know my professors and NYU’s facilities will support me in my academic and personal development. For example, a major passion of mine is the visual arts. I have taken six art classes over the past four years, including AP and honors-level classes. If I decide upon the visual arts as my primary area of study, I could develop my fine art skills through NYU’s offerings at the Barney Building. It caters to different media, like painting and ceramics. NYU also offers innovative digital art coursework, such as its game design courses. This will help me explore my passion for art via developing video games in ways that could lead to a new career path.
I have never really had the ability to see if my interest and ability in science could merge with my love of art. I can also explore my interest in the natural world of the sciences, via NYU’s Biology Department. Creative writing is another area of interest, which I could sharpen through NYU’s English Department but also develop in conjunction with other departments, learning how to write about art from an academic and critical perspective, or to write about new developments in science
