A critical component of nursing is treating a patient's psychological as well as physical needs. I have seen this again and again in my work for an intensive care unit. Every day, more and more patients who are HIV positive come through our doors. HIV can take a tremendous psychological as well as physical toll upon the individual. Additionally, although HIV and AIDS can be contained, the drug regime prescribed must be carefully followed. For patients with ambivalence, shame or guilt about their illness, they may unconsciously sabotage themselves; for patients with deep and entrenched mental health problems outside of their HIV status, following a recommended program of drug therapy and counseling can be even more arduous.
Of course, the failures of HIV treatment are not the patient's 'fault.' There is also the problem of providers who themselves are ill-equipped to deal with the psychological challenges…

As it is, rural nursing is already beset with issues that range from a lack of professional practice system, the need for larger incentives for nurses to work in the rural areas, a general unwillingness to live in these areas among the nurses and the foreseen depletion of the supply of rural nurses. Possible solutions and approaches have been proposed.
Approximately 20% or 54 million U.S. residents live in locations categorized as rural (ushy, 2006). These residents are distributed across 80% of the nation's total land area. There are several pros and cons to requiring a nurse to have a BSN to enter nursing practice. The most obvious advantage is that it would standardize practice and ensure excellence. Nonetheless, there were various factors that either terminated the bill while it was being processed or had it cancelled after adjournment. National licensure involves setting of criteria for universal licensing nationally, and administering it per state. It relinquishes, to some level, state authority over criteria for licensing and would expect states to bargain and agree on a complicated chain of regulatory factors including discipline and investigations. There are many academic skills that are necessary for nursing students that also serve nurses well in professional practice. Today, there is a serious problem within the nursing field. There is a huge shortage of nurses in general, but an even greater shortage of nurses with higher levels of education. A survey of the existing research that provides statistics to show how alarming the problem is becoming, but also to provide foundation for the most potentially successful solutions. The projected numbers of needed advanced nursing specialists, as well as the goals for future benchmarks, all need to be documented within the context of this research in order to show how dire the problem is and create a foundation for potential solutions. The research was carefully surveyed and thus, data was collected through comprehensive means. The ideal target / benchmark uncovered in this search was that 80% of nursing staff should hold baccalaureate degrees (Pecci, 2013). This research also helps focus in on the most lucrative proposed solutions as a way to promote them within actual practice. It needs to uncover solid alternatives that can help increase the number of advanced practice nurses in this country in a practical and feasible manner. Essentially, the data collection is a survey of prior research, and can be done independently. This means I will personally scour the published resources from academic and scholarly sources, as well as from professional nursing organizations.

Motivation as a Factor in Nurse etention
The decreasing recruitment and retention of nurses throughout the United States and internationally is a growing concern that must be addressed and remedied. As front-line workers, nurses play an integral role in the provision of quality healthcare to those who are most in need - the patients. In order to remedy the problem of increasing numbers of nurses leaving the profession, it is crucial that influential factors be identified. This study will explore the effects that motivation has on the job satisfaction of nurses and on nurse retention. It is hypothesized that nurses who are more motivated in their jobs are more satisfied, and are thus less likely to leave the profession. The findings from this study will provide information as to what changes can be made so that nurses are more motivated in their profession.

New York Times describes how R.J. Reynolds Tobacco was found guilty of breaking its agreement to market cigarette products only to adults. The judge found that the company had pursued an advertising strategy aimed at promoting youth smoking. Important to the ruling, is the judges decision that 'actions speak louder than words' with it being reported that "the judge ruled that 'it does not matter' whether Reynolds intended to single out children and get them to smoke. The fact that it did not adopt 'reasonable measures' to shield young people from its advertisements represented a breach of the company's responsibility to help reduce youth smoking" (Winter).
It is also reported that Reynolds is not the only company accused of specifically targeting young people, a snuff making company is also accused of the same thing.
These issues have several significant implications on nursing practitioners, health practices and on health care.

The Grade Experience of Online Nurse Practitioner Students Who Took More Than One Clinical Course Per Quarter
The shortage in primary care physicians has increased the demand for nurse practitioners (NPs). Online NP programs are of interest to working students with other personal and professional life demands. This study examines grade experience differences for students of an online NP program who took more than one clinical course per quarter (OCCPQ) as compared to those who did not take more than OCCPQ. This retrospective study consisted of 3,760 NP students who graduated between fall 2013 through spring 2016. Those who took more than OCCPQ had a greater percentage of clinical course failures at first attempt as compared to those who did not take more than OCCPQ (2.1% versus 0.8%, p=0.001). Multivariate logistic regression adjusting for relevant covariates maintained these results with increased odds for clinical course failures for those…
Difficult Situations as a Nurse Practitioner
The scenario for the nurse practitioner centers on Angela Smith and her family. Angela is a 55-year-old who suffered a stroke and admitted after neighbors noticed some really odd behaviors. The situation was further complicated when Angela suffered a respiratory arrest and required mechanical ventilation and after a second CT scan the team found that she bleed into the ventricles and brainstem which may have caused irreversible brain damage. Her condition is quite serious and there must be a decision made about how to proceed with the care for Angela. It is likely that she will need long-term ventilation and PEG and the neurological team suspects that the brain damage is irreversible.
