What is Children?

Children as a subject within Family Science sits at the intersection of developmental psychology, education, and social policy. Courses in child development, family studies, counseling, and education theory regularly ask students to examine how biological, social, and institutional forces shape children's growth. The topic is academically rich because it connects individual development to broader systems — families, schools, and communities — making it relevant across multiple disciplines. Recurring concerns include how children build cognitive and emotional abilities, how parents and educators support or hinder that process, and how thinkers such as David Elkind have challenged dominant assumptions about childhood, education, and the pressure placed on young learners.

Papers on this topic approach the subject from several distinct angles. Some take a research-design or empirical focus, examining the effects of divorce on children through structured methodologies or single-subject designs. Others are observational, drawing on direct child observation to analyze developmental behavior in real settings. Policy and persuasive angles appear in work on physical education, inclusion education, and competitive versus play-based learning. Literary and rhetorical analysis also surfaces, as in examinations of Cinderella stories, showing that childhood is studied not only through data but through cultural texts. Counseling-focused papers address therapeutic interventions, while nonprofit and community-program angles explore how institutions serve children's needs.

A strong essay on children scopes its thesis around a specific population, context, or outcome rather than addressing childhood in general. Evidence drawn from developmental research, case studies, or policy analysis carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is treating children as a passive subject rather than engaging with how their own agency, environment, and relationships interact to shape outcomes.

Cause and Effect: The Impact of Deployment on Military Families Introduction – Cause (Deployment) Effect (Stress on Families / Children) The stress on military families when the father or mother is deployed – whether the deployment is to a war zone or to another place – can be very intense and psychologically stressful. Thesis: families left at home when a military parent is deployed face social and psychological issues that do not necessarily end when that parent returns from deployment; however, there are strategies to reduce the stress once the parent returns home from the deployment.

The reform that Barack Obama campaigned was meant to provide ‘universal healthcare' to all of the United States of America. How the Cinderella story varies across cultures and versions
Many cultures around the world have their own version of the Cinderella story. It is a classic tale about good versus evil. Many contemporary American audiences are familiar with the Disney version, but there is a heroine for almost every race and culture. The magic is provided, variously, by a fairy godmother, Mother Nature, or some other being or force. It is a tale of transformation, too, as a simple girl is rewarded with a better life than the one she had.

Types and causes of child abuse in contemporary society
What is child abuse? Child abuse can be referred to as a physical, sexual or an emotional state of harm that is inflicted upon the child. There are various types and forms that can be undertaken by the abuser which may involve hitting, shaking, beating, burning or even biting the child in the physical form, Sexual forms of child abuse may involve incest, molestation, touching and exposing the child to sexual acts that may not be appropriate for them and they may not want to be involved in. The emotional states of such harm include scolding, tormenting, abusing, humiliating and insulting them. Some people also argue that neglecting the child's needs will also be categorized under abuse in some cases, for instance not giving them water and food, depriving them of shelter, clothing and other such necessities of life which also inflict harm upon the child in one way or the other. This phenomenon is quite an increasing form of tragedy in the society and is not just restricted to third world and underdeveloped nations (McCauley).

The "Deadly Medicine" exhibit and Nazi eugenics policy in the Holocaust Museum
The Holocaust Museum Introduction The Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. is a place that is both dark and light, from the perspective of a visitor and the emotions that one feels on being in a place like this. The darkness results from the facts and photographs that are on display. It is very difficult to believe that these events took place just over seventy years ago in Europe, and that Adolf Hitler's Nazi party conducted mass killings without interference until the Soviets, the Americans and British and allies finally fought their way through France and into Germany to put a stop to the genocide. The light comes from knowing that the truth is a very final thing and it brings closure to such a horrifying event. Seeing the photos, viewing the videos, and watching the other visitors to the museum respond and react to the exhibits, I did see a lighter picture of the Holocaust Museum. I saw parents with their adolescent children (it is not recommended that children under the age of 11 be brought to this museum), and I could see that giving children an opportunity to learn about genocide is part of the education they need as they grow up. Seeing, reading, and learning about the Holocaust is important for them in terms of their need to understand history and to recognize that humans are capable of cruelty and those who conduct cruel actions against others must be stopped.
