What is Communication?

Communication is one of the most foundational subjects in the academic world, examined across disciplines including media studies, business, psychology, education, and family studies. Its breadth makes it a natural focus in undergraduate courses that ask students to analyze how meaning is created, transmitted, and received between individuals, groups, and organizations. What makes communication academically compelling is its dual nature: it functions both as a practical skill and as a theoretical framework, raising questions about process, power, and understanding that touch nearly every area of human experience.

The papers archived on this topic reflect a wide range of approaches. Some focus on interpersonal and relational contexts, such as how lack of communication affects relationships and marriage. Others take an organizational or professional angle, examining how demonstrative communication functions in business settings or how email has shaped operational communication. Technology is a recurring lens, with essays exploring how digital tools affect communication in business and everyday life. Additional papers approach the subject through specific populations or roles, such as early childhood educators, small teams, or families, while others engage with process-based theoretical questions about what communication fundamentally is.

A strong essay on communication benefits from a clearly scoped thesis that commits to one context or dimension rather than treating the subject in vague generalities. Evidence carries the most weight when it is drawn from specific, observable examples — workplace scenarios, documented relationship patterns, or concrete technological developments — rather than broad assertions about human nature. The most common pitfall is conflating communication with speech alone; strong essays recognize that the process encompasses nonverbal cues, listening, medium, and feedback as equally important components.

Television History: From Invention to Public Consciousness
Television's evolution is both familiar and unexpected, because although it developed along the same lines as radio and film, the effect it had was much more dramatic. Television was created within mass media, rather than as a founding element of the mass media, and so it affected the public differently. When viewed in the context of the twentieth century, television's more important effect was the way it transitioned entertainment away from uniform experience to the multiplicity of products seen today with the internet.

Personal Development Plan for Career and Skills Growth
Careers are sometimes as fleeting as the dreams that encompass them. Often, individuals, in search of a career dream of financial security, the ability to purchase a dream home, or obtaining material possessions that may showcase their wealth or status. There is no lack of ambition and fortitude within individuals in this regard. We all want to achieve success is some form or another. We all aspire for greatness, albeit in varying degrees and capacities (Maslow, 1996). What is lacking however is a concrete method in which to achieve ones desired financial and career goals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in recent report indicated that individuals change careers approximately 11 times during their lifetime. Many jobs are becoming obsolete as they are either replaced or outsourced overseas. Many jobs are cyclical in nature and thus are only needed during periods of economic euphoria. No matter what the theory is however, one constant will always remain. Individuals need to utilize their talents and skillsets to maximize their earnings potential (Druker, 1999). In order to achieve this success, I believe it prudent to develop a personal development plan outlining an individual's goals and objectives. This resource is very important as it provides the foundation for the individual's future objectives. Personal development is of particular interest in the midst of our current economic turmoil (Ibarra, 2003). Now, perhaps more than any other period in history, development of individual skills will determine financial success. As such, I personally have made significant strides in my development with respect to my work and individual life. Currently, as is the case with many recessions, companies have a tendency to lay off mass amounts of labor. This has occurred throughout many of the developed nations including, but not limited to, America, Europe, and Japan. This requires a renewed emphasis on skill development on the part of individuals.
