The point is made that this type of worship is not to the exclusion of private worship, but the scriptures show that God wants his followers to have a corporate church to facilitate fellowship among Christians. A summary of the research and important findings concerning these issues are presented in the conclusion.

This paper offers a verse-by-verse exegetical reading of Psalm 142, focusing on its specific nature as a Psalm of lament. The paper explores the question of whether complaint against God is in some way a valid form of prayer--the text of Psalm 142 suggests that it is.
