What is Contrast?

Like a compare and contrast essay, a contrast essay asks you to choose two or more items and ideas and write about them.  However, instead of highlighting similarities between the two things, a contrast essay will describe how they are different.  It is important to note that, in order to have an effective contrast essay, there must be some similarities or shared middle ground between the things being contrasted.  A contrast essay that focused on the differences between a roller skate and the planet Jupiter would contain a lot of contrast, but would be almost incoherent.  However, a contrast essay that focused on the differences in Earth and Jupiter would start from the point where they are similar (planets in the same solar system) and then highlight differences.

Women\'s Tenuous Position Society Susanna Rowson\'s Book
Susanna Rowson's 1791 novel "Charlotte Temple" provides an intriguing perspective regarding society's understanding of women in the eighteenth century. Although it appears that Rowson wanted her readers to be left with the impression that it is wrong to discriminate women, it is difficult to determine whether she wants to emphasize that women are stronger than one might be inclined to think or whether she simply acknowledges women's vulnerability and wants the masses to express a more sympathetic attitude toward them. One of the writer's main intentions in writing the novel is obviously that of improving the image of women in society.

Plato and Death One of the Most
One of the most influential minds in western philosophy describing this search for meaning was Plato. Plato lived from 422-347 B.C, and was born into an aristocratic family in the city of Athens where he became a student of Socrates, and eventually a teacher of Aristotle. As a student of Socrates, Plato followed the structure of philosophical agreement to ensure a just society - no laws are to be broken despite their relevance. The ability for an agreed upon purpose to structure society, law, is important to both the general populace and to philosophers. This theme of law, self-actualization, and justification of responses, resources, and human thought would run through all of Plato's works. Plato's "Theory of Forms" or "Theory of Ideas" assets that non-material ideas are the basis for truth and fundamental reality, not the material and constantly evolving world we perceive on a daily basis

Comparing Hamlet and Laertes: character analysis and thematic contrasts
William Shakespeare's play Hamlet puts across a series of concepts related to treachery, honor, and impulsiveness. In spite of the fact that they initially appear to be very different in nature, Hamlet (the central character), and Laertes are more similar than one might be inclined to think. The two are principally concerned about avenging their fathers and believe that nothing can stop them from reaching their goal. In spite of their determination they are both imprudent and this reflects in a series of mistakes that they make in their attempt to accomplish their goals. Anger is one of the principal concepts that influence them in losing control and it is the eventual reason for their death.

Marx and Goffman Karl Marx
Karl Marx presents the theory of commonality fetishism in the first chapter of the book, "Capital Critique of Political Economy" of the year 1868. In explaining the notion of social origination in labor as ascribed through exchanges in the market, Karl Marx reiterate s that all is concerned with the buying and selling of goods and services in the market. The theory of revolution, where "revolution" does not mean a moment in which competing groups or classes confront each other openly in militant opposition is evident in every perception taken by Karl Marx as shown in this study.
