What is Contrast?

Like a compare and contrast essay, a contrast essay asks you to choose two or more items and ideas and write about them.  However, instead of highlighting similarities between the two things, a contrast essay will describe how they are different.  It is important to note that, in order to have an effective contrast essay, there must be some similarities or shared middle ground between the things being contrasted.  A contrast essay that focused on the differences between a roller skate and the planet Jupiter would contain a lot of contrast, but would be almost incoherent.  However, a contrast essay that focused on the differences in Earth and Jupiter would start from the point where they are similar (planets in the same solar system) and then highlight differences.

Individuals, businesses, and Governments; every entity has taken its impacts in one way or another (Burger, Coelho, Karpowicz, & Tyson 2009). Since its arrival, financial crisis has posed big threats to the world markets. The countries are trying to overcome the bad impacts of this crisis but have failed to recover their positions due to severe recession and worsening economic conditions (U.S Department of the Treasury 2012). Economists and Financial Analysts have discussed various reasons for this Global financial crisis; a big downturn in the financial and housing mortgage sector is said to be the biggest reason of all (Donath & Cismas 2009). The Global financial crisis has hit almost all the sectors of the economy which have not only hampered the industrial growth in the countries, but also caused serious challenges and issues for the Governments and regulatory bodies (Independent Evaluation Group 2012).

Challenges to Puritan theocracy in seventeenth-century American colonies
This essay answers a number of questions regarding life in the early American colonies, from the influence of Puritanism to the effects of the slave trade. In doing so, it provides a much more robust depiction of the colonies than it usually seen. Understanding the complex cultural, religious, and political experience of those people living in the colonies provides a basis for a more in-depth consideration of American history as a whole, because many of the issues that characterize this history can be traced back to the colonies' earliest days.
