What is clear, however, is that the Rule of Law was never a central organizing principle of Marxist thought or the socialist societies which it produced. In surveying the legal developments of the Soviet Union under Marxist ideology in comparison with the post-communist Russian Federation, this paper demonstrates that the role of the law has changed in the Eastern European countries.
