There have been numerous attempts to try to identify and better define the world we live in, especially given the ever-changing conditions in our society. Nowadays, the term of globalization has come to impact not only the economic structures of global trade or interconnections at the level of hemispheres, but also it defines social interactions, political attitudes and in essence all elements that make up the global society.

Mariah Carey was born on Long Island, New York, on the 27th of March, 1969. She was born of mixed ethnicities: Her mother was Irish-American (Patricia Hickey) and her father, Alfred Roy Carey, was Venezuelan and African-American, hence the beautiful bronze tone of her skin. Her mother was a vocal coach and had sung opera in New York City; so her mother was very helpful in getting Mariah started as a singer. According to a biography in Newsmakers (Gale Biography in Context) during her youth, Mariah was fond of music by Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder (Newsmakers, 1991, p. 2).

Oedipus Colonus as tragedy: examining Aristotle's criteria
Aristotle sought to convey the techniques of a perfect tragedy by drawing all the distinctions that seem to be conveyed in Oedipus.
The perfect tragedy follows an outline of "six parts, which parts determine its quality—namely, Plot, Characters, Diction, Thought, Spectacle, Melody" (Aristotle; Poetics). Each of these six parts contain distinct conditions and the whole is supposed to result in a certain psychological sensation called catharsis where the reader/ spectator, through identifying with the protagonist, reaches a certain well-being of mood or purging of emotion.
Each of the six parts can be seen in the story of Oedipus in various ways.
Oedipus was the perfect character whom readers could identify with. His misfortune came about through error rather than vice. The story is complex enough to provide surprises yet holistic so that the whole centers around one plot and theme. The story follows a crescendo of beginning, middle, and end. It contains Melody and implications, and reflection.
