What is Issues?

Personal issues as an academic subject appears across nearly every discipline because real-world problems rarely stay neatly within a single field. Students in business, healthcare, ethics, economics, political science, and social sciences are routinely asked to identify, analyze, and propose solutions to concrete problems. What makes this broad topic academically compelling is that "issues" require writers to move beyond description — they must diagnose causes, weigh competing interests, and evaluate consequences. Whether the context is a company's ethical conduct, a public health challenge, or a policy dispute, the underlying intellectual task is the same: transforming a messy problem into a structured argument.

The papers archived here reflect a wide range of analytical approaches. Case studies dominate, examining specific organizations, individuals, and scenarios to draw broader conclusions — from business conduct at companies like Office Depot to ethical dilemmas in healthcare settings. Other papers take a diagnostic angle, identifying conflict or systemic dysfunction in real-world situations. Policy-oriented work appears as well, including economic analysis and explorations of fiscal policy problems. Some papers engage with research-based topics such as stem cell research and mental health supervision, blending scientific evidence with ethical reasoning.

A strong essay on personal issues begins with a clearly scoped problem statement that specifies who is affected, under what conditions, and why the issue matters. Evidence carries the most weight when it comes from credible sources directly tied to the case or context being examined. The most common pitfall is treating the issue as self-evident — strong papers define the problem precisely before attempting to address or resolve it.

Human Resources Over the Last Several Years,
Over the last several years, the issue of employee compensation has been increasingly brought to the forefront. This is because globalization is requiring firms to have employees with specialized skills. In the case of the mid-level manager position, the ideal candidate must be able to meet the basic qualifications to include: a good communicator / listener, leadership, someone who can work well with others, a minimum of a four year Bachelor's degree, at least three years business experiences, the ability to utilize technology, a quick learner and a person with a willingness to continually adjust. At the same time, they must be flexible enough to deal with a host of challenges. To fully understand how this is occurring we will focus on: the job description, developing a recruiting plan, the selection strategy, job performance evaluation, compensation and possible training / development issues that need to be addressed. Once this takes place, is when we will show how this can help to find the most qualified individuals for the position. This is the point that firm will be able to address its needs and attract / retain talent that will help to keep them competitive in the future.

Film Theory Film and Reality
When photography appears in historical development, its indexicality adds the appeal of endurance through time to the impression of likeness in painted perspective. Crucially, ?likeness' is not given epistemological or cognitive value in itself, but rather is being invoked as a sup- port for fundamental needs of the subject vis-a-vis time. And cinema adds duration to the embalming of a single temporal instant in still photography. As Bazin puts it in ?The Myth of Total Cinema,? this makes cinema the realization of a perennial compulsion, a virtually ageless dream of perfect realism, which would have to include duration. But, as with any wish fulfillment, such preservation of the real object is protectively converted into the preservation of the subject. Always, for Bazin, cinema achieves its specificity through the relations of the subject.

Frederick Douglass: life and legacy
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, Written by Himself appeared in May 1845. William Lloyd Garrisonwrote the preface; Wendell Phillipswrote an introductory letter. Douglass's stark rendering of his torturous slave experiences, however, was the smash. By 1848, eleven thousand copies had been published in the United States; French and German translations had appeared; and in England, it had already experienced nine editions. Ecstatic praise for Douglass's eloquent and touching narrative was widespread. "The book, as a whole, judged as a mere work of art, would widen the fame of Bunyan or Defoe," wrote the Lynn Pioneer reviewer. This reviewer added: "It is the most thrilling work which the American press has ever issued -- and the most important. If it does not open the eyes of this people, they must be petrified into eternal sleep." A British reviewer marveled at Douglass, "a fugitive slave, as but yesterday, escaped from a bondage that doomed him to ignorance and degradation, [who] now stands up and rebukes oppression with a dignity and a fervor scarcely less glowing than that which Paul addressed to Agrippa."

Frankenstein and Romanticism
Having long been viewed as peripheral to the study of Romanticism, Frankenstein has been moved to the center. Critics originally tried to assimilate Mary Shelley's novel to patterns already familiar from Romantic poetry. But more recent studies of Frankenstein have led critics to rethink Romanticism in light of Mary Shelley's contribution. Gradually emerging from the shadow of her husband, she is increasingly being recognized as a distinct voice within Romanticism, a distinctly feminine voice within what seems to be a male-dominated movement. The trend of recent studies of Frankenstein has been to view it as a critique of Romanticism, particularly as developed in Percy Shelley's poetry. Critics have argued that Frankenstein is a protest against Romantic titanism, against the masculine aggressiveness that lies concealed beneath the dreams of Romantic idealism.
