Nursing Education and Effective Postoperative Pain Management
Pain management, especially postoperatively, is central to a nurse's role. Yet despite the significance of that role, the provision of such service has remained inadequate. Many studies point to the level of education and training of nurses as critical in effectively managing postoperative pain. Eight studies are presented in this paper, most of them agreeing on the importance of continuing or upgrading of nurse education. An acute pain service was tested on a sample and found that it improved both the level and quality of pain relief.
