What is People?

The study of people sits at the center of nearly every academic discipline, from sociology and psychology to literature, public health, and political science. Essays grouped under this broad topic examine human behavior, identity, social roles, and the systems that shape individual lives. Because the subject touches so many fields, students encounter it in introductory composition courses, upper-division humanities seminars, and professional programs alike. Works like Sophocles' Oedipus the King and Langston Hughes' "Night Funeral in Harlem" appear alongside nursing research and immigration policy, reflecting how questions about what it means to be human cross disciplinary boundaries and resist simple answers.

The papers archived here take a wide range of approaches. Literary analysis appears in close readings of Hughes and Sophocles, while social and policy perspectives drive essays on immigration, reintegration after incarceration, and technology dependence. Applied professional angles emerge in work on nursing evidence-based practice, physical education teacher burnout, and strategic staffing. Personal narrative and descriptive writing feature in essays about historical figures and memorable life events, while research-oriented pieces examine extracurricular activity, premarital factors, and quality improvement initiatives. This variety shows that writing about people can mean analyzing a character, evaluating a workplace policy, or reflecting on lived experience.

A strong essay on any aspect of this topic needs a focused, arguable thesis rather than a general statement about humanity. Evidence that carries weight includes specific examples, credible research, or close textual detail depending on the assignment type. The most common pitfall is scope creep — trying to address all of society when the essay should examine one clear issue, case, or idea in meaningful depth.

Misogyny and violence in Nadeem Aslam's Maps for Lost Lovers
n short, therefore, although Welchman and Hossain state misogny and violence to transcend all coutures, there is a degree of violence and misogyny that is particularly characteristic of Islamic societies. These societies not only legitimize such actions but also actively pursue them to a greater or lesser degree. And almost always, these countries that pursue such violence are characterized by backwards and poverty. It is a s though one condition instigates the other. Pakistani art and culture is there – in fact the novel is full of it and rads like one itself. The misery and heartache, however, the coldness and desolation is not attributable to the Islamic culture of poetry and art; rather Aslam attributes it to a religion / social ethos that has gone askew and lost itself in the morass of the years. Backwardness has resulted in misogyny. In turn, misogyny culminates in violence. And the spiral continues.

Stephen Watkins' film Backspace and modern urbanism
The short film Backspace by Stephen Watkins is most certainly a comment on modern urbanism and the way our very lives are organized. Through the commentary, we know that Watkins is a designer, so sees the world through a set of images and the way these shapes and images come together to form objects of meaning. But perhaps it is in this very objectification of meaning that the true nature of modernity appears. We are structured in almost every aspect of life with signage, with directions, and with rules. As the film evolves, though, these very images of control seek out entropy within themselves – forming the word "Float" over the cityscape.

Organizational structure and strategic planning: insights from employee interviews
For both woman and man, key problems were lack of transparency and lack of communication between top management and the rest of the organizing. In fact, this lack of transparency and communication seems to be the key to most of the other problems. For instance, if, as regards the first organization, managers were more involved in strategic planning, they would be aware of the fact that employees needed to receive technical training and the strategic plans would receive more of their input and support. The second organization seems to have a more effective leadership although here too communication was missing resulting in a non motivated lower echelon. Recommendations would be a reshuffling of top management in the first case, expelling many of the personnel; improving communication in both organizations; introducing training (including technical training) for employees in both organizations; making them aware of the importance of strategic planning; and making the organizations more lean by eliminating many of the extraneous people. In this way, the woman would be better able to accomplish her work whilst the man may feel somewhat better about his job and organization than he seems to at the moment.
