What is Population?

Population is a foundational concept in government and policy studies, appearing across courses in public administration, political science, health policy, and international development. It concerns how the size, composition, and dynamics of human groups shape governance decisions, resource distribution, and social outcomes. Students are drawn to the topic because it connects measurable demographic forces — birth rates, death rates, life expectancy, and migration — to pressing political questions about inequality, public health, and economic development. The topic also invites examination of specific communities and regions, from Hispanic immigrants in Los Angeles to populations affected by Sudan's civil war, making abstract demographic trends concrete and politically significant.

Archived papers on this topic approach population from several distinct angles. Some take a direct demographic focus, analyzing how birth rates, death rates, and poverty interact to produce inequality. Others use regional or case-study frameworks, examining Middle Eastern economies, immigration patterns, or health disparities among racial and ethnic groups. Health-oriented papers frequently assess community-level conditions, including nursing surveys of specific neighborhoods. A number of papers address the political and economic implications of population pressures on debt, development theory, and international policy, while others focus on the consequences of continuing human population growth at a global scale.

A strong essay on population grounds its thesis in a specific demographic variable or policy problem rather than attempting to cover all aspects of human population at once. Evidence drawn from health data, economic indicators, or documented case studies carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is treating population as a backdrop rather than the central analytical subject — the strongest papers keep demographic dynamics directly tied to the argument throughout.

Patient falls as a nursing-sensitive quality indicator in elderly care
Falls are a major problem amongst the elderly, particularly amongst the 656+ population and can lead to so many related problems, occasionally to fatal results, that this essay considers it a crucial topic for nurses and caregivers to look into and investigate. Approximately, a third to one-half of individuals fall each year (Downton, 1991), whilst in the United States, alone, one in three people, who are over 65, fall at least once a year, and this incidence increases to one into two people for those who are over 80 (Rosendahl, et al (2003). The severity of fall complications also increases over age, particularly with females, resulting in more mortality and morbidity related to fall with individuals whose age exceeds 70 than with those who are younger (Gillespie, et al, 2009). The following essay devises a training program and assessment scheme that will attempt to reduce the number of falls amongst a certain patient population

Mandatory minimum sentencing and the prison industrial complex in America
The US justice system is never short of controversies in the way it handles minority members like the Blacks and Latinos. As shown in this study, discrimination of the minority members in the US prison is pronounced to the extent that they are used to provide free industrial labor. Worse of it all is the fact that leading US firms rely on the prison labor in order to sustain their operations. People of color are the eventual casualties of all these arrangements.

Political reforms needed to restore American democracy and civic virtue
Restoring democracy and civic virtue in the United States will require major reforms that reduce the power of corporations, elites and special interests in the whole political process. Right now, there is a radical disconnect between the political and economic elites and the needs and interests of the ordinary voters. Most people today realize that the country is in its worse crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s, but government and the political system seem dysfunctional and incapable of dealing with it. Removing the power and control of big money from the political process forever would be the most important step in revitalizing American democracy and making the system more representative and accountable. So would eliminating the Electoral College and electing the president and vice president by a majority of the popular vote. Despite the protests of small states, only this type of reform might actually pressure presidential candidates to campaign more widely for votes instead of concentrating on a few large states, or visiting big cities where the wealthiest donors reside. In addition, the Senate seems particularly dysfunctional and more responsive to the needs of elites and corporate interests than the people. Its use of the filibuster was always an absurdity, especially when the South frequently united in a bloc to prevent blacks from obtaining civil and political rights, and the system today simply maintains a kind of status quo that concentrates all wealth and power at the upper levels of society.

Obesity and health disparities in the Hispanic American population
Obesity means more than just being overweight. It should not be taken for granted because it is a medical condition in which the extra fat of the body accumulates at different sites and causes negative effects on the health of the person (Haslam and James, 2005). This leads to various health problems and thus reduces the quality of life and expectancy. When the body mass index, commonly referred to as BMI in medical terms, of a person becomes greater than 30 kg/m2, he or she is labeled as obese (WHO, 2009).

Development and democratization in the modern world
The history and the future of development and modernization are fairly crucial to the chronicles of socialization in the world. These issues are discussed at length in the three articles examined within this document. A synthesis of these resources indicates that development will enable a social, economic, and industrial parity with traditional third world countries, which may one day displace Western countries as global leaders.
