What is Position?

Position as an academic topic spans a wide range of disciplines, from business administration and public policy to nursing, education, and personal development. Courses in organizational behavior, healthcare management, political science, and professional writing all prompt students to examine what it means to hold, argue for, or strategically occupy a position — whether that refers to a job role, a policy stance, a formal argument, or a place within an institution. The topic is academically interesting precisely because it sits at the intersection of identity, authority, knowledge, and strategy, requiring writers to think carefully about how individuals and organizations establish and justify where they stand.

The papers collected here take notably varied approaches. Some are analytical, examining how organizations and companies leverage employee experience and satisfaction to strengthen their competitive position. Others are policy-oriented, addressing issues in education, nursing practice, or public administration, including cultural diversity in nursing and the role of strategic planning in public policy. Still others are personal and reflective, asking writers to assess their own professional success, goals, and future plans. Case analyses and reviews — including examinations of leadership models in healthcare and the effects of deregulation on global finance — round out the range with applied, evidence-based approaches.

A strong essay on this topic begins with a clearly scoped thesis that specifies whose position is being examined and in what context — avoiding the common pitfall of treating "position" so broadly that the argument loses focus. Evidence drawn from organizational data, policy documents, professional guidelines, or concrete personal experience tends to carry the most weight. Writers should connect their specific case or argument back to broader principles, whether about leadership, institutional design, or professional identity, to demonstrate analytical depth beyond simple description.

General George S. Patton Jr.
One aspect of cultural development which seems to be universal throughout the course of humanity's history is the innate desire of society to lionize the accomplishments of triumphant military leaders. Perhaps owing to a subconscious desire for the implicit protection provided by effectual wartime figures, nearly every civilization from the ancient Greeks to contemporary suburban Americans has placed its generals, admirals, and other military authorities on a proverbial pedestal, lauding their preternatural ability to motivate men during the heat of battle while achieving strategic victories. Among this nation's long lineage of military leaders – which begins with George Washington's revolutionary heroics and includes famed generals like Andrew Jackson and William Tecumseh Sherman – one of the most competent and accomplished figures to ever lead American troops on the field of battle was also considered to be among the most controversial. General George S. Patton, Jr. attained a level of recognition – what critics would no doubt call infamy – that few in the history of the United States Army have ever reached, the result of his uncanny ability to command men during combat, his aptitude in exploiting the advantages of armored warfare, and indeed, his regrettable but regular lapses in judgment. By studying the course of Patton's military career, in conjunction with an examination of his many flaws, both public and private, one can employ empirical analysis to demonstrate conclusively that Patton's controversial incidents cannot possibly outweigh or invalidate his celebrated military career, nor his invaluable contributions to the refinement of combat tactics using armored vehicles.

Econometrics of University Selection Prestige Location Ivy
Attending college, and the selection of colleges, is one of the most important decisions individuals can make in their youth. Future college students base their decision making criteria on a wide range of information. Some consider whether or not the school is a party school, others consider the history and the level of prestige that the school has obtained, and others may select a school based on the cost or the proximity to their homes. However, one metric that will eventually affect all students is the level of income they will obtain during their career. In most cases graduates will seek employment after graduation and be selected and compensated based upon factors including the school they attended, their major, and their performance while attending the school. This research will attempt to determine some of the factors that have the most influence upon mid-career salaries in order to provide insight into the economic value that regulate, or at least should be considered in such decisions.
