Activity Description and Summary
The activity I completed was a professional development workshop. This particular workshop was focused on attendance in the New York State school system. It provided a plethora of information bout the various facets of attendance, from how to accurately report it to different stratifications of attendance -- by day and by period, for example. Each of these stratifications includes a different form on which to record the attendance of students.
The workshop was extremely comprehensive in that the information it provided applied to public schools throughout the state of New York. It was attended by numerous other educational professionals from the surrounding areas of the five boroughs. In addition to yielding a considerable amount of information about how to professionally and accurately record attendance, it also provided a good opportunity to network with others, and to learn about their own challenges and solutions to the various facets…

Principal duties
As part of my principle duties as a nurse, I have strived to go above and beyond my job description and alert physicians about ways to cut waste. One of my interventions saved the hospital $1,000.00 to $5,000.00 while still producing the same successful surgical outcomes simply by the way valve sutures were allocated and utilized.

I reformulated formulated the nursing policy and procedure manual and custom-built a travel cart for more rapid ECMO patient care. I also collaborated with a surgeon to foster general quality improvements in ECMO at the facility, resulting in more expedient care and reduced patient mortality rates.

The data collected can be stored in a proper registry which is useful for everyone who will need to gain experience, the amateur nurse just need to study this data in case actual professionals are not there for practical help or guidance. This same data can be used in coaching and mentoring as many of the new trainees may not be familiar with the terminologies or methodologies written, in that case a mentor is required to help them understand and perform better.
Thirdly, how can nurses contribute to orientation and ongoing education programs and act as a role model to other members of the healthcare team? Here, the contribution of nurses towards the orientation should not be just mere introduction but a proper guidance from themselves towards the students on all the phases, tasks and the scenarios which the students have to go through.

Impact of IOM eport on Nursing Education:
One of the major contents of the IOM report on the future of nursing is the need for these professionals to attain higher levels of education and training. According to the report, this can only be achievable if there is an improved education system that boosts flawless progression in academics. Education in the nursing field should act as the foundation for long-term learning and incorporate opportunities that promote flawless switch to higher degree programs. This report is likely to result in profound changes in the nursing education to include the major changes in nursing environments and practice. The changes in education will be geared towards providing understanding and experience in the transformed nurses' roles, management of care, change management, and methods of quality improvement ("Transforming Education," 2010).
In efforts to develop a system that promotes ongoing lifelong learning, the nursing profession…

Professional Development and esearch
Figure 2 in Joyce and Showers (1995) means (to me), that awareness and concept understanding are much more significant in specific parts of teaching (and other helping or communication professions) than skill attainment or problem solving, at least where presentation of theory and modeling are concerned. That is not to say that these other areas are not important, but only that they are not as vital as the ability to be aware and understand the concepts with which a person is working (Jasper, 2006).
However, when it comes to skill attainment in feedback and coaching, there is a strong correlation. It is more important to be both aware and skilled in those two areas, where the presentation of theory and modeling are more focused on being aware and understanding the concept, as opposed to attaining a specific level of skill. In the area of coaching and peers, application…

Perhaps more than any force beside diligence, knowledge will impact one's success, translating into the capacity to make good decisions, to evade costly errors and to behave in a manner that is essentially ethical. This is why, according to Merriam's (2001) report, transformational educational strategies have emerged as among the preferred means of helping continuing learners through the process of professional educational engagement. Merriam remarks on the transition in conventional thinking which would move the discussion on professional education toward these transformational strategies.
Today, professional development education has attained a unique place in the discourse over learning philosophies and approaches. ith respect to our consideration of transformative learning strategies, this is relevant because the needs of adult learners fall into their own distinct instructional and cognitive categories. One reason at the base of this distinction is the diversity of motives which inclines adults to seek education. Accordingly, Bash (2003) reported that…

These are important traits in a nurse, since the long hour inherent in the work environment can create fatigue and a less than happy disposition. Hence, if friendliness and patience are already inherent personality traits, this gives the nurse an important reserve to use when his or her energy reserves are eroded by the long hours of work. Clients who visit the hospital should always be made to feel at ease, especially in the case of shock, injury, or grief, which are often inherent components of the health care environment.
My preferred learning style is visual, with some components of the auditory learning style as well. This means that, before practical experience, I prefer to obtain information primarily by looking at it and secondarily by listening to it. Ideally, my learning environment should therefore be made up of lectures with plenty of visual material. In a hospital set-up, I learn…

Entities such as the U.. Department of Education for example offers several suggestions for mitigating problems related to teacher development issues.
The Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative (U.. Dept. Of Education) for example provides teachers with a basis from which to make their own development choices. This not only provides teachers with the opportunity for further development, but also to remain autonomous regarding the decisions that they make in this regard. Indeed, this aspect is essential in accomplishing true teacher development.
The Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative is implemented by teachers themselves, and provides other teachers with technical support, professional development, and also recognition for teachers for their accomplishments at their various grade levels. In this way, it is the aim of the Department of Education to strengthen its support for teachers within the United tates. pecifically, the following aspects are addressed by the Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative:

Describe the nurse leader's role as advocate for the nursing profession
As the nursing profession advocate, the nurse leader will ensure that there is unity amongst the nurses within the health care facility. This unity will allow the nurses to work together and share responsibilities. With unity, the nurses can be able to coordinate and advice one another, and this would improve the quality of health care provided Dall'Alba & Sandberg, 2006.
The nurse leader will also advocate for better working hours for the nurses. Nurses work long hours and fatigue can affect the quality of service they provide. The nurse leader will come up with duty rosters that are considerate of the nurses working hours. The nurse leader can also advocate for the nurses specialization. With each nurse having specialized in a specific field, the nurse leader can push for the nurse to be based…

Professional development is a key component for the growth of all education professionals.
In the reflective paper, the author reviews information updates from the i.gov website that reviews department specifications for teacher training in the special education sector. This includes the pertinent regulations that provide funding for activities such as Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs). It also lays out the regulations regarding format and implementation of the FBAs, including such issues of legitimacy as parent participation in the evaluation and intervention process.
In this essay, the author will review a complete assessment and reflect upon the information gained, including what tools were used, what each tool does provide in terms of programming for a student with special needs. e will see how the regulations are affected by the information in the instructional planning (including FBA and BIPs) and how these affect the student with special needs.

James Cain, Mildred Pierce
On the grounds of literary merit, Mildred Pierce is a 'potboiler.' However, its tale of how a hardscrabble woman made a fortune through a chain of restaurants illustrates the American Dream, in terms of both of its good and bad sides. Pierce is a strong woman, but author Cain cannot allow her to be viewed as a heroine, because of her failure as a mother. Reflecting a common cultural stereotype, women are shown to be unable to be successful both in the business world and as 'real' women.
Walter Mosley, Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned
Walter Mosley's work is a kind of film noir in prose. It features an African-American detective, Easy Rawlins. This book is important because it looks back at the formative classic era of Hollywood in Los Angeles through the eyes of a contemporary, American author and examines how the conventions and restrictions of…
Professional Development Plan
Attaining a Master’s degree in Nursing requires a great deal of focus and coordinated effort. It also requires that the student’s personal and professional goals be aligned, as the Master’s degree in Nursing is really the ultimate expression of this alignment: a student whose personal values and aims do not reflect the professional aims represented by the Master’s in Nursing is a student who is likely to be pulled in two different directions at once. Unless the ultimate aims converge, divergence will result—and that is why it is so important that a nursing student reflect upon how his or her personal and professional goals correlate. This paper will serve as a professional development plan: it will give some background on my personal history, my professional accomplishments, my future aspirations, while also identifying my academic interests and my goals for my Walden educational experience.

Promoting Leadership Professional Development
One of the harsh realities of working in an organization is the inevitability of inappropriate promotions that are based on friendship, cronyism or nepotism rather than merit, or wherein employees find themselves thrust into leadership roles by virtue of luck or fate, or a combination thereof. In addition, some leaders who intentionally attempt to climb the career ladder into the executive boardroom may find their path frustrated by a lack of appropriate leadership training that can help them become more effective in the workplace. Although history has shown time and again that some people are born leaders, far more people need some help to achieve their maximum potential in these leadership roles. The objective of this essay was to review to recent peer-reviewed journal articles concerning the importance of leadership professional development and what steps can be used to facilitate the process in the modern workplace.…

Academic and Professional Development
A scholar-practitioner in clinical research administration is someone who can actively apply academic research to his or her mindful practice in the field and affect the lives of patients in a positive way and who can also use clinical knowledge, experience, and wisdom to inform his or her academic practice. In other words, he or she can enjoy 'the best of both worlds' and merge practice and theory. The practice of medicine is ultimately designed to help people in the real world, so there should always be a dialogue or permeable relationship between scholarship and research. The clinical research administrator embodies this ideal. I see this in my own work and also the work of others. One of the strengths of master's level research is that it enables a nurse to function both as a scholar and also to continue to work effectively in the field of…
Interviews Contribute to My Professional Development
From the two interviews, it is clear that the relevance of embracing teamwork cannot be overstated regardless of the specialty area one operates in. This is more so the case given the nature of our practice. We largely operate in an environment that calls for collaboration among various health professionals. The two interviews also underscore the relevance of nursing research. Both interviews clearly indicate that the influence nursing research has on the promotion of optimal nursing care is immense. For this reason, I am convinced that the future of professional nursing practice is in one way or another hinged on nursing research. It is important to note that ultimately, we as nurses are responsible for the provision of high-quality care to patients. However, there is no way we can evaluate how effective nursing treatment modalities are without nursing research. Based on the responses given…
TESOL: Professional Development Opportunity
Professional development is an important aspect in the modern teaching environment given the consideration of teaching as a profession instead of people performing a job. In essence, since teaching is a profession, teachers should actively participate in professional development activities. These activities are primarily centered on sharpening the skills and enhancing competence for teaching practice. Educators have the essential responsibility of lifelong learning, which implies that they must constantly learn new approaches and strategies that benefit their students. Consequently, there are numerous opportunities that are available for professional growth and development of teachers.
For TESOL, professional development activities help improve their dedication to advancement and improvement of teaching English as well as enhance competence in their practice. One of the professional development activities that are available to these practitioners is conferences that are held by different organizations or associations in this field. The focus of a recently attended…

Instructional leadership and professional development are some of the most important components towards enhancing the effectiveness of teachers with regards to learning outcomes and achievement of the required educational standards. This is primarily because instructional leadership and professional development are focused on student learning and achievement. School districts are increasingly recognizing the need to promote instructional leadership and professional development of educators in order to enhance student learning and achievement. Paterson Public School considers instructional leadership and professional development as the basic vehicles for generating the desired change in teaching practice, which in turn helps in enhancing learning outcomes and student achievement. As a result, the school utilizes several measures for conducting needs assessment in relation to instructional leadership and professional development. This paper examines the evaluation instruments utilized by Paterson Public School for needs assessment on instructional leadership and professional development.

Duncan (2010) points out, therapists often neglect to pay attention to their own growth and personal changes during the process of working with clients over the course of a career. Focusing on our clients is of course the center point of our work. However, we can be far more effective as therapists when we are aware of what is going on inside of us. Awareness can lead to insights regarding how we can be of better service to our clients, while also preventing problems for ourselves such as burnout.
Specific methods of tracking personal development, which have also been empirically tested, include the various types of feedback mechanisms, the Healing Involvement model, and also the process of cumulative career development (CCD), all of which reveal concrete ways of improving therapeutic outcomes (Duncan, 2010, Chapter 4). While some of these methods may seem to be based on intuitive responses, they are…

Research Vision and Professional CompetenciesAbstractMy goal as a psychology practitioner-scholar is to understand and promote the mental health of individuals in high-stress situations. I am particularly interested in how social and cultural factors can influence the development of mental health disorders. To do this, I plan to work in a setting that provides direct psychological services to individuals, such as a counseling center or a hospital. I would also like to conduct research and scholarship in order to further my understanding of the relationship between social and cultural factors and the development of mental health disorders. In order to pursue my future career as a professional psychologist, I will need to complete a high-level program at Capella University and specialize in an area of psychology, such as Social Psychology, which is relevant to my interests. Plus, I will need to obtain licensure and certification, which involves passing the Examination for…

Implications for Improvement of Practice
Introduction (could be longer. Include mandatory teacher ongoing certification standards)
Ongoing staff development has long been a vital part of the educational environment. It is the means by which the faculty and staff of a school system are kept current in educational trends, technologies and philosophies. In a diverse society, social pressures felt in the classroom are continually making the teaching process more challenging.
In the past few years alone, the advance in computer capabilities and in-home computer gaming equipment has affected the attention span of the average student. Elementary and secondary education students have a different paradigm as to what is interesting. Thus the challenge in the classroom to grab, hold, and mold the students attention have changed. An effective teacher must be aware of these changes, and other social influences,…

Differentiated Coaching for eading and Literacy
One approach to professional development that is gaining widespread acceptance among reading leaders is differentiated coaching. This paper examines how reading leaders can better engage in differentiated coaching for teachers of reading to meet the learning and culturally diverse needs of reading students in an elementary school, including the existing degree of comfort at my school with this tool, the readiness of the school's culture to implement this tool and a recommend approach for carving out time to use differentiated coaching in my school. Finally, a discussion concerning what type of data might be collected while using differentiated coaching concludes the paper.
What is the degree of comfort that exists with differentiated coaching at your school?
Although my school has used peer mentoring in the past, there has been no effort to employ the differentiated coaching model so the degree of comfort is currently suboptimal. According to…

Professional Counseling
The relevance of counseling as a helping profession cannot be overstated. This is more so the case taking into consideration the role counseling plays towards the facilitation of the development of not only an individual but also a family or even a group.
Counseling as a Distinct Profession: The History and Philosophy of the Profession
Marini and Stebnicki (2008) point out that although counseling as a term made its first appearance (in print) sometimes in the year 1931, the practice of the same had started earlier on. It is important to note that although the roots of counseling as a helping relationship can be traced to the early omanian and Greek times, the actual development of the counseling profession as we know it today largely started taking place in the late 1800s. In the words of Marini and Stebnicki (2008), "the origins of the counseling profession in the United States have…

Professional Organization for Nursing
In the past, a number of individuals inside every society started delivering care and nutrition for all those who had been struggling to look after themselves. Because these people became 'care specialists,' they started to express to other individuals the procedures that helped them and also to train other individuals as apprentices who would probably at some point continue their function. The advancement of contemporary nursing starting from some sort of vocation, towards the profession and discipline of nursing, started during the later part of the 1800s when Florence Nightingale stated her perspectives on the way nurses ought to be taught and schooled and just how patient care ought to be offered (Hegge, 2011).
The very first schooling institution for nurses within the U.S. established during 1873. Two decades afterwards nursing school managers sensed the moment had arrived to interact as well as discuss their best practices…

The director of the assessment program must sit down with each teacher one-on-one as the teacher establishes goals for the year. These goals should be formal and written out, rather than merely established privately by the teacher. Then, at the end of the year, there can be a debriefing of the teacher participants, as well as an assessment of the growth of the class. This method of investing in teachers and allowing teacher more input into the structure of the assessment program on an ongoing basis is a transformational model in the manner in which it fosters change as a collective process. Teachers will also feel a greater sense of investment in a school which contributes to their growth as professional educators through mentoring.
Despite the resistance shown by the teachers to goal-setting, the school feels that this approach is fair, given its focus upon improving teacher quality and its…

Principals are instrumental in sparking professional dialogue amongst teachers and encouraging critical self-reflection within the minds of individual teachers. All of these elements of reflection and reflexiveness are essential during staff meetings, for a true Professional Learning Community to function as it should.
A good principal is willing to provide an honest evaluation as to how the school is progressing in its mission and not allow the school's reputation to rest upon its past laurels. A principal functions as the strategic planner who determines the long-term goals of the school, and the short-term goals or benchmarks the school must reach to achieve those goals. By setting goals and helping generate a collective sense of mission for all persons at the school, principals create the necessary atmosphere at the school for more effective practices.
Principals also play an important role in facilitating professional development, as the ideal of teachers continuing to learn…

Field Counselor DispositionsSensitivityGoal: A SMART goal for this disposition could focus on attending all counseling sessions with an open mind and heart by listening more than speaking throughout each session. Objective: The objective would be for the counselor to become more aware of how their clients feel without coercively attempting to shape those feelings in any way; allowing the client to grow autonomously from their unique viewpoint and position within each session.ImpartialityGoal: The goal is to ensure that all counseling sessions involve approaching clients with impartiality, valuing their rights, dignity, and worth, by identifying, acknowledging and respecting their cultural values at the start of each session. Objective: The counselor should receive proper training in the areas of contextual and cultural competency. This education includes increasing knowledge on the characteristics of different social and cultural contexts as well as understanding diverse world views so they can be conscientious when working with different client…
My needs assessment reveals that there is a significant amount of work I need to do to successfully further my professional development. One of the most salient needs is that I require professional modeling. Specifically, it would benefit my career to be able to pattern myself and the various actions I take to further my career predicated on the counsel and behavior of another. Were I able to attain a mentor, he or she could assist me with the some of the facets of improvement I need as identified in my needs assessment. For instance, organization is one of the areas in which I could stand a fair amount of improvement. If I were able to meet with a mentor either formally or informally, in person or via the telephone, I am sure I could learn some prudent ways to better my organization to benefit both myself and any potential…
.....career through a greater understanding of the day-to-day operations of counselors and some of the procedural and formal issues that need to be thoroughly mastered prior to certification. With this practicum, I have engaged in 63 direct practice hours (130 nondirect), and this time has provided me with substantial real world experience that will prove invaluable in the future. The exposure to different counseling philosophies and approaches has opened my mind, and I intend to incorporate what I have learned in the practicum to my future practice. Direct client contact involved intake, group sessions, and a number of interactions that were rooted in what I have been learning previously in school. However, I also found that the indirect practice hours were helpful in showing me how counselors protect their clients, ensuring their information is kept private and confidential as well as accurate.
Eager to gain more knowledge, I believe that there…
agrees that ethics is an important part of effective leadership in the field of health care but there is no universally accepted understanding of what constitutes ethical leadership (Milton, 20004). The concept of ethical leadership has been addressed in the literature of a wide variety of fields associated with the health care profession but none have been able to clearly define its terms. The purpose of this paper will be to examine what ethical leadership means to me and how my personal viewpoints and attitudes have been affected by my background and experience.

For me personally, however, the empathy that I develop is directed by my spirituality and inclination to see beyond what is obvious. This combination has been most beneficial for me as a social worker (obbins, Chatterjee and Canda, 2006; Lesser and Pope, 2007).
Furthermore, the level of loyalty and dedication that I bring to my work is something I am very proud of. As I mentioned earlier, loyalty and dedication are some of the important traits that I look for in my friends and the main reason for this is the fact that these are the traits that I personally vibe-out as well. I feel that as a social worker, perhaps the most important aspect that an individual can bring to work is dedication; as part of this world, u have to truly have a passion for it to be able to withstand the constant setbacks, financial instability and lack…

Acting With Integrity and Fairness
Reflecting on personal ethics encourages the educator to be self-aware and make improvements. Acting with integrity and fairness promotes a culture of accountability within the school because each teacher remains committed to taking responsibility and for collaborating with others to achieve common goals. Integrity is not just about conforming to “simplistic notions of right and wrong,” but making difficult decisions with multiple variables (Gorlewski, Gorlewski & Ramming, 2012, p. 1). Fairness implies the ability to weigh different variables, set priorities, and remain committed to student-centered goals. Minority viewpoints need to be heard, and a good leader applies transformational skills that empower others to have the courage to speak their truth. As a leader, I act with integrity when I remain true to my values and committed to the goals of the organization, setting aside my pride or need to be right in order to focus on…

At first I was not sure how to react to the question. I had just landed my first job after securing my undergraduate degree in business administration, and I was extremely excited about my prospects and the new place of employment. I had called my mentor, my professor from my introduction to business class during my undergraduate tenure, to thank him for his letter of recommendation and to celebrate the good news. To my surprise, the first thing he asked me was where I saw myself in five years.
Today, I am well prepared to answer that question, and my response is almost entirely predicated on my procuring a Master's of Business Administration degree from Shenandoah University. Talking with my mentor that afternoon helped me to realize the direction I wanted to take my career, and how valuable an MBA was to…

Introduction
The identification, development, and retention of high-potential employees is one of the most important areas of research in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology. Whereas the vast majority of the workforce will perform in ways that do promote organizational goals, the top performers in any organization are those that provide the firm with its competitive advantage. On the contrary, organizations that do not actively seek to identify, develop, and retain high-potential employees stand to lose a lot as top talent may seek opportunities to maximize potential elsewhere—often a competitor. Moreover, the high potential employees are those with the greatest potential to lead the firm in the future, paving the way for effective succession training and management.
Research on the identification, development, and retention of high-potential employees is burgeoning, but there are significant gaps in the literature. Filling those gaps would help organizations create and implement evidence-based practices to ensure the success of the organization,…
Professional development is the strategy used by schools to ensure that educators continue to strengthen their practice throughout their career. The most effective professional development engages teams of teachers to focus on the needs of their students. They learn and problem solve together in order to ensure all students achieve success. Presently, most school systems are using a variety of schedules in providing a collaborative learning as well as, work time for teachers. Professional development in education has gotten a bad reputation, and for good reason. A wide variety of professions such as educators participate in professional development to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that allow them to improve their performance on the job. Therefore, this paper will discuss professional development in education and methods to establish effective teacher growth practices for the learning communities.
Today, everyone talking about education reform agree that teachers receive sporadic professional opportunities that…

Professional Nursing Associations: ationale
A professional association refers to "an organization of practitioners who judge one another as professionally competent and who have banded together to perform social functions which they cannot perform in their separate capacities as individuals" (Merton, as cited in Matthews, 2012). Nursing has, over time, developed to professional status and is at present characterized by numerous national professional associations. Whether or not these associations add value to their professions and whether or not there is need to have so many of them have been subjects of debate in recent years. This context gives an in-depth demonstration of the rationale behind professional nursing associations, and illustrates why there is need to have them in greater numbers.
The ationale behind Professional Nursing Associations
Nursing is built upon the concept of advocacy; nurses not only advocate for their profession, but for their patients as well (Gregg-McQuilkin, 2005). Professional associations, motivated by ethical…

Professional development is a multi-faceted process towards enhancing one's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in his/her career. This process incorporates maintaining and enhancing academic credentials and experience towards a fulfilling and meaningful career. During this process, an individual must consider and incorporate important factors that enable him/her to improve his/her skills and experience. Some of the most important considerations to make during this process include networking, consistency in professional brand, and maintaining connections with a career coach or mentor. Through focusing on these various aspects, an individual effectively enhances his professional practice and development processes.
Role of Networking in My Professional Life
As part of enhancing my knowledge and experience in my career, I have developed vital networks with different people. Throughout my professional practice, I have realized that networking plays a crucial role in enhancing my knowledge, skills, and abilities. Generally, my career requires me to network, especially because of the…

Professional Issues in Nursing
Things that surprised me
The chapter on collective bargaining has some surprising aspects with respect to nursing. Collective bargaining has a number of difficulties while being implemented at nursing profession. Nurses have a number of predicaments that can easily bar them from accessing and delivering quality services to patients. In order to arrive at an equitable ground where success is determined and assessed by use of collective bargaining, nurses and any other worker should exist in groups of palatable ground of service.
As indicted in chapter 17 of the book, nurses and many people working in organizations have difficulties in accessing policies that demonstrate their capabilities. Nurses encounter difficulties, which are often directed to their organizations. Nursing is a difficult activity that deserves a lot of sacrifice and affection from the people involved. Moreover, it is surprising to know that there are no direct segments within a health service…

Some of these causes include shift work/long work hours, sleepiness, social/familial disruptions, vulnerable groups, long-term effects, and injuries. This is an indication that various institutions should focus on the evaluation of the causes of risks faced by nurses at the workplace in order to adopt and integrate quality interventions towards enhancing the safety of the nurses (Alison Trinkoff et al., 2008). One of the effective and influential approaches towards promotion of safety of the nurses is transformation of the working schedule to offer sufficient opportunity for the practitioners to recapture their energies following stressful interaction with the patients.
This is through minimization of the working hours as well as integration of favourable shifts to operate in the favour of the nurses as they seek to enhance their safety. It will also improve concentration levels of the nurses at the workplace thus quality relationship between the patients and nurses in addition…

Nurse Skeptical's etort
Nurse Skeptical's response to the above interpretation of the scenario is likely to be quite defensive, and a defense of her actions and decisions would not be entirely without grounds. If there was indeed a psychological problem that Mrs. testy was experiencing, it would render her incapable of autonomy at least in the very limited regard of her requests for pain medication. The very essence of a psychologically-induced feeling of pain is that the patient cannot differentiate between a psychological and a physiological symptom, and thus cannot accurately report the pain to their medical professional. Furtehrmore, should the placebo that Nurse Skeptical plans on administering prove equally successful in "treating" the "pain," her actions would seem entirely justified.
This defense overlooks several key factors necessary to the proper provision of medical care, however. First and foremost, there is at least some possibility that the pain Mrs. Testy is experiencing…

According to Carr, "It is good for the development of young people to undergo some dress discipline, and only right for teachers to set pupils an appropriate example in this respect" (emphasis added) (p. 218).
There are some common sense rules that can be followed by middle school teachers in determining what will be perceived as "professional attire" by others, especially their students. For example, in his essay, "Transition to Teaching: Putting Your Best Foot Forward," Senne (2004) recommends conservative attire and jewelry for both male and female middle school teachers. According to this author, "Female teachers should choose to wear a conservative dress (appropriate length), blouse and skirt, or blouse and dress slacks. Male teachers may opt for a dress shirt, dress slacks, tie, and suit coat. Shoes should be consistent with selected attire" (p. 46). While these are the typical choices for professional attire, they certainly do not…

The American Psychological Association (APA) is a pivotal organization within the discipline of psychology. The influence of the APA on questions of standards and professionalism is unquestioned. A demonstration of this influence is the use of the APA standard for presenting papers and research work. Thus, the APA is the guardian for quality and integrity in the psychological landscape in America and much of the world.
The APA has very specific organizational purposes and attempts to stay within the parameters of its organizational purposes. The main purpose of the APA is the advance of "psychology as a science, a profession and as a means of promoting health, education, and human welfare" (American Psychological Association, 2011). This purpose is achieved through the publication of journals, the establishing of best practices, the improvement of research approaches in psychology, and the real life application of research findings. The improvement of qualifications…

My professional career post-baccalaureate in business at George Mason has involved many difficult situations in financial analysis and reporting. The major firm where I have been employed is responsible for communication technologies used by many agencies in the public and private sector. The teams responsible for financial forecasting at this publicly-traded firm have a difficult and dynamic set of requirements to accomplish their objectives. Our forecasting must always keep in mind the following as we provide guidance to support planning:
Research and technology within the industry create obsolescence faster within this industry than typical consumer commercial markets
Government and municipal contracts require different specifics for reporting and contracting than conventional internal policies and procedure
Forecasting requires rate analyses and continuous comparisons to models rather than static data so that senior management can make rapid decisions to insure that capital is working efficiently.

Professional Association
Joining a professional association is crucial for nurse practitioners (NPs). It enables NPs to remain abreast with trends in their field of practice, access a network of peers, and expand professional networks. Joining a professional association is also important for certification, career assistance, as well as getting free or discounted rates for annual conventions, journal articles, and educational materials. Indeed, joining a professional association is essential for NP professional growth and development.
One professional organization a NP may join is the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). The organization was formed in 2013 following the merger of the American College of Nurse Practitioners (established in 1995) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (established in 1985). AANP is the largest professional organization for NP in the U.S., bringing together over 222,000 NPs from all nursing specialties (AANP, n.d.). The mission of the organization is to bring NPs together and empower…

Staff Development Plan
Staff development is central to the quality performance of activities in any organization. In order for an institution to achieve its goals and objectives, a clear staff development plan is necessary in order to set priorities and initiate a common spirit of all the staff members. This study examines the necessity of a key staff development plan in an envision higher learning institution. The study explores the importance of staff development to the quality of higher education. Currently, many higher learning institutions do not consider the necessity of proper staffing and development as a key to quality performance. Instead, these institutions fail to achieve their goals or objectives, and consequently low quality of higher education.
Higher education institutions highly depend on people to deliver their missions and objectives. In this regard, the quality of staff and the motivation they receive from the institution's management highly influences their performance. Various…

A transformational leader will fully incorporate followers into the organizational strategy.
Part of this problem lies in the way in which the program was imposed upon teachers. The administrators created this program to enhance student and teacher accountability: teachers were encouraged to engage in self-scrutiny and to improve their professional standards and this was hoped to lead to a more enriching educational environment for students. Teachers, however, resented the additional paperwork required by the program while the loosely-structured program meant that administrators were frustrated when they felt that teachers gave the program 'short shrift.'
In reconfiguring the program, we have come to realize that there are four core elements of building relational trust. The first is respect: "Do we acknowledge one another's dignity and ideas? Do we interact in a courteous way? Do we genuinely talk and listen to each other?" (Barkley 2008). In this instance, teachers and administrators are not…

Professional Learning and Development -- the Teacher's Perspective
The recent debate over standards-based education has tended to focus upon student performance in regards to standardized testing and the rise of common core standards. However, an equally critical component of the question of improving our nation's schools is the training and education of teachers. eceiving a degree in education is only the beginning of the teacher's development as an educator. This proposed research project will examine teacher perceptions of professional development exercises and how they believe it has influenced their efficacy in the classroom and student performance.
According to the 2013 report issued by the Center for Public Education entitled Teaching the teachers, "recent education reforms have urged teachers to foster collaboration, debate and reflection amongst students, in order to develop cognitive processes like those called for in the new standards. Ironically, districts rarely apply these same learning techniques to developing teachers.…

Each level influences and is influenced by those around it." (Costa, Kahaneo, Lipton, et al., 2001, p. 2).
Once the teacher understands how their performance and their teaching ability relate to the outcomes of the school as a whole, they will be able to understand the need for peer observation and coaching. They desire better outcomes for the school, but they are not accustomed to the openness of the peer coaching model, as we will see.
Barriers to Success
Through the course of this literature review, several key barriers to the success of peer coaching programs were discovered, Many of the problems related to logistical problems that could be easily solved through time management or creative scheduling. However, some of barriers to success related to the attitudes of the teachers themselves. This barriers will prove much more difficult to resolve.
One of the key barriers to professional development programs is finding time to…
